If you collect Avios points, this weekend might be a good one to buy a watch from Goldsmiths. They're giving 16 points for every pound spend ex vat. For example, if you buy a watch for £5,000 inc vat you will get (5,000 * 0.8333 * 16) 66,667 points. Depending on the flight you book these can save you anywhere from 0.5 to 4p per point.

I value them at 3.35p per point as that is what they were worth for business class flights to Las Vegas last year. So that's a saving of £2,233 which on the original cost of £5,000 is a cashback of 44.7%.

If you have a BA Amex card you will get an additional 1.5 points for every £1 inc vat you spend. So an additional 7,500 points which means you're total saving is £2,485 or 49.7%. I think that is tremendous!!!

Note its not real cash back. Its just a saving on a decent business class or first class flight with BA or one of their partners.

Sounds good, but it must be appreciated that Goldsmiths are more expensive than just about anywhere else.

Keith, that is a great offer but how did you find out about this? I'm keen to learn so that I don't miss out next time.

I picked up a SD43 (£8,300) at Goldsmiths mid-week and paid with BA Amex Black where normally £1 = 1.5 Avios. Had I known about this weekend's offer, I'd have waited a few days - possibly or possibly not as I was so excited to get my hands on the new toy.

Indeed it’s a great offer. Especially if you want a Rolex.

I must have got an email from Avios about a week ago, not exactly sure as I deleted it. I have the BA Amex card and must have signed up for alerts.

They put the points up and down, so you just have to wait for the right deal to come along. Goldsmiths were giving 12 points before, but then reduced them to 8 in order to “double” them to 16 for this weekend.
