Although I ordered without a box, they put a flat pack box and foam cushion in with my order anyway. It was not a Seiko branded box but was something.

Sure you can buy an empty Seiko box on eBay for pennies if you really want one.

Yea no doubt, I'm not saying what I did made any monetary sense hehe

As much as I love my skx007 I've been looking at the slightly smaller 013 today, at £140 on Creation I'm sorely tempted but afraid if I do the 007 will never get worn again. The 007 isn't not too big; but I know its there most of the day..

As a cautionary tale.

My watch has arrived in the UK. Cost £165.00. Then got stung for £67 duty and VAT. Duty charge put on top of cost of watch then VAT added on top of that mad

Just thought this information may be useful to others in the future.

Hopefully the watch arrives with me today!

Yes you need to pay duty and vat when you import goods from outside of the EU

Often get stung with a processing fee from the carrier as well , always bear this in mind when ordering from outside of the EU

The days of getting away with not having to pay it are well over in my experience , the only time you will is if the seller marks the value of the goods down and Creation wont do that

Try Tobydeals, lower price on Seiko 007/009 and no VAT/duty.

I selected DHL/FedEX so was well aware that I would need to pay extra. Just wasn't prepared for how much extra. Think it's slightly cheeky that they ask for VAT on the duty amount rolleyes
Apparently the delivery guy was shocked by the extra amount charged saying he's never seen a fee that high and wondered what the hell it actually was in the box!!!

There isn't any duty to be paid. You paid a DHL handling fee & then 20% VAT on the total cost (including the handling fee). To be honest it shouldn'thave been a surprise given that the VAT rate is well known.

Think you'll find that I was charged duty at 12%, followed by VAT and then a handling fee.

Look forward to your explanation for this as I'd love to claim some of the fee back!!!

Emailed their customer service team who were very prompt and just said that those were the charges.

More than happy to take it further with them if someone can point me in the right direction of the relevant info!

Seems to confirm that both duty and VAT are payable?!

Hmm, this is a doozy. I think the Commodity Code is wrong. If you look they have used a code of 61 02 90 90 00 which according to the .gov website is a ladies anorak. As you can see it's subject to 12% duty!

https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/trade-tari...

I think your watch should have been coded as 91 02 21 00 00:

https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/trade-tari...

Which has a duty rate of €0.8 per pice (hence my statement about there being no duty payable).

So although it's described as timepiece, it's been coded by someone as an anorak as they have possibly entered a 6 instead of a 9 as the first digit of the code. Good luck sorting that out.

To bring closure to this little episode!

After much back and forth the good people at HMRC have decided that they indeed made an error and will be refunding me X amount. Letter on it's way apparently telling me exactly what X amount will be!

My thanks once again Mr Pointy!

Good work. Hope X isn't the derisory amount I suspect from previous HMRC dealings.

£19.80!

Quite why they couldn't send the cheque at the same time as the letter informing me of the amount who knows?!

Thanks all for the input!

Received my Seiko Presage SARD007 from them last week, with no issues. Hadn't considered customs charges, but there you go.

Paid a bit more than I wanted in the end, but they were the only one that had it in stock, so can't really complain.

Got my SKX007J from them about 6 months ago. Absolutely no issues with the purchase and dealing with them - comms, dispatch and shipping were all super fast.

I got hit my VAT and handling via DHL as I had the box etc.. But in the end I only paid around 10% more than what a 'K' version would've cost my from Amazon, which I don't mind as I wanted the 'Made in Japan' text, and it's not a particularly expensive watch anyway.

Added a StrapCode Super Oyster and now it's my daily driver.
