I went to the Rolex AD in Guildford, they had black face subs on less than a year wait.
My first Rolex was a Pepsi GMT. I just walked into the jewlers, paid my money and left with my watch.
How things have changed.
I went into that same AD last weekend to ask about Tudor GMT. When talking about the waiting list he did say that in reality the list will be shorter than it appears because many of the people on the list have put their names down at mutiple ADs. My first Rolex was a Pepsi GMT. I just walked into the jewlers, paid my money and left with my watch.
How things have changed.
Often when a watch comes in and they contact the next person on the list, they find that the buyer has already got one from another AD. It makes sense, so hopefully a 12 month waiting list might really be 3-6 months....but I've never bought a watch on a waiting list so I couldn't really speak from experience.

Christ there are some chippy people on these forums. You should get together with the Captain Flash above. I perhaps didn't articulate it as clearly as I should have for the internets police as I was on my iPhone. To clarify what I meant is that choosing an expensive "once in a lifetime" watch is a completely personal purchase and so I didn't feel that anything I could say would offer much help in that respect. If you are looking to spend £5k+ on a watch but don't know the difference between a Sub and a GMT then I'd recomend doing proper research beyond asking questions on a car website. Maybe I'm just weird but the search and investigation and understanding of a new watch is as much of the thrill as the eventual purchase for me.
To the OP here is a Forum where you'll find a lot more info and expertise on Rolex Watches old and new in addition to other high end watches.

It's worth mentioning that "second hand" doesn't necessarily mean used. You will often find unworn watches for sale in the secondary market.
Don't rule out a watch that is used, but fresh back from a Rolex service. You get 2 years guarantee and the watch will probably look like new. I know where there is one like that in fact. I seem to recall that it's a 90s model but looks like new and has Rolex warranty for 2 years or the balance thereof.

Again, in my opinion, I'd look at the second hand market rather than new because you have a whole lot more choice and won't have to wait. If I'm buying a watch once I've made up my mind I want it now, not in a month/year when dealer can get one in. Watchfinder and Chrono24 are a good place to start. Also Blowers Jewellers, Official Watches or Watches of London.
I Googled Watches of London and drew a blank. Did you mean Watches of Mayfair?Maxym said:

Sorry I meant these guys (or guy) as I think it’s a one man outfit. He has decent turnover of good watches at the right price normally. I bought a great AP ROO Safari from him. https://watchesldn.com

Now that was a helpful post - you're quite good at it when you try!
I do not own a Rolex, and really know nothing about them. My small collection comprises two Omegas, a Breitling and a recently acquired Breguet: a watch I bought after a lot of advice and help from forum members here.
I have always sort of fancied the idea of a Rolex, and I have to say I like the very simple stainless pieces, like the old Explorer.
So, question - are there ever deals to be had at the airport? I did not quite get to the Rolex shop at Heathrow T3 this time, I was too busy trying on Tudors in the watch shop across the way (and very nice they were too)...
There are no deals to be had on a Rolex at UK airports because there are no watches worth buying there...as many have noted and you will discovered when you ring/visit boutiques is that they have virtually no sports watches in stock ever and loads and loads of st that nobody really wants to buy.I do not own a Rolex, and really know nothing about them. It is not a long wait for some of the GMTs and subs. Dealer in Leeds rang me after a few weeks offering a GMT and after a couple of months to offer a BLNR.
Forget about a Daytona at list. Aint gonna happen without a long wait and good contacts.
There are much better watches, though there is understandable appeal for a sub or a Daytona.
£16k for a £9100 retail daytona is just a bit daft though.
Hi All,
OP here!
Thanks for all the input.
I looked and enquired at many London AD (as I work here) and they would not even entertain putting my name on the list. 12 months for non-date and 24 months for date!!
So I called the AD local to me, didn't occur to look locally, as I spend all my time in the City.....long story short, I'm on a list and it could be up to 12 months.
Fingers X, I will update you guys when I get it obviously.
Thank you, for you valuable input and if you do find an AD with one immediately....then give me a shout! LOL.

I bought my Sub in 95 for £2,500. It's probably worth about £6k today. I bought my Zenith Daytona for £7,000 and its probably worth £15-20k now as the Daytona market has gone crazy. Go figure.
There must have been a monumental price review in '94-'95! In Aug 1993 I paid £1,460 (no discount offered) for my SubD. The more knackered it gets the more I like it as it's seen plenty of action both in and out of the bedroom. Whatever you buy wear it, live with it, and one day if you're short of dough there's a good chance you'll get good money back.

Now that I think about it again maybe it was £1,500 not £2,500. I need to dig out the original invoice and take a look. If it was then the price rise since is even more amazing.Whatever you buy wear it, live with it, and one day if you're short of dough there's a good chance you'll get good money back.

Submariner,
available with or without date, 300m WR unidirectional timing bezel, oyster bracelet
GMT-II,
Only date version, 100WR, bidirectional time zone bezel, jubilee bracelet, second hour hand allowing to display 3 time zones
3? how does it do that? The second hour hand for the second time Zone how do you get the 3rd? available with or without date, 300m WR unidirectional timing bezel, oyster bracelet
GMT-II,
Only date version, 100WR, bidirectional time zone bezel, jubilee bracelet, second hour hand allowing to display 3 time zones
If you want to read a 3rd time-zone, you rotate the bezel by how many hours forwards or behind GMT, your 3rd time zone is.
Here's an example:
I am a TRF resident in the UK, so usually my hour hand is set to GMT, as is the green 24 hand of my most excellent timepiece, the GMT-IIc.
I travel to Egypt (+2 hrs GMT), so on the plane I advance the standard hour hand forwards by 2 hours. Now the main watch hands are showing me local (Egypt) time, whilst the green 24hr hand is still showing me the time back home in London. (Note - you read the green hand against the Bezel numbers, not the main watch face!).
Now suppose I want to know what local time it is in LA. I know that PST is 8hrs behind GMT. So I rotate the bezel 8 notches clock-wise. The green hand will then indicate to me what LA time is (read off the Bezel; not the watch face). The main hands of course will still be showing local (Egypt) time.
You cannot read 3 time-zones simultaneously, but the Bezel rotation does make it very quick to flip to a 3rd time-zone.
Does all the above discussion on discounts also apply to the Milgauss?
I think I will be in the market for a 116400GV in the next few weeks and wondered if it's worth searching out a discount? I have seen the watch on display in quite a few jewelers recently so they are out there to buy.

Milgauss seems to be one of the few SS models that can still be found in dealers. It’s never been a huge seller to the point that some of the older models now sell at a premium due to rarity. I’m a fan of the orange hand version. Looks great. I think I will be in the market for a 116400GV in the next few weeks and wondered if it's worth searching out a discount? Does that mean discounts are available, I really don’t know but it’s got to be worth asking.
