There must have been a monumental price review in '94-'95! In Aug 1993 I paid £1,460 (no discount offered) for my SubD. The more knackered it gets the more I like it as it's seen plenty of action both in and out of the bedroom.
Whatever you buy wear it, live with it, and one day if you're short of dough there's a good chance you'll get good money back.
My sub non date I bought in Zermatt 18 years ago , iirc I got 7 % discount then didn’t pay the Swiss VAT that netted down to £1290 because of the relatively good exchange rate at the time.Whatever you buy wear it, live with it, and one day if you're short of dough there's a good chance you'll get good money back.
Got the original invoice somewhere I must dig it out .
Remember feeling guilty buying it at the time , looking back I wish I’d bought a few more.

almost impossible to find a SS rolex sports model at the airport.
Currently at Schipol airport - the Rolex Ad hasboth a white face and black face explorer 2 on display.
Plus a Daytona (unfortunately bi-metal, gold case/face)
A year ago i was in a similar boat.
I bought a 16570 Explorer 2 with black dial
It's the 40mm one, not the later 42mm case.
I quite like chunky watches but i found the 42mm too bulky and a bit toy town for my liking.
I was able to buy a late model 40mm 16570 for sensible price and I love it.
Understated and cool I think, goes with anything, and as it has no rotating bezel it is nice and slim, GMT hand is also useful.
Must go for a Submariner or a GMT, but I love the understated versatility of my Explorer 2.
Bought it from Mark Worthington Jewellers whom I found had a good selection of used and serviced watches.
