OP - I'd buy something else rather than get involved with the game Rolex and ADs are playing. I'd also rather have something that isn't made by the (near) million each year that everyone who sees it will think is a fake.

It surprised me that in 15-odd years of wearing various Rolexes they almost never got noticed or commented upon except when I was in a watch shop.
My boss wears a Rolex Explorer. I noticed it but have never commented. How would you know its never been noticed?

When I saw my boss's one my first thought was "I wonder if it's real?", which is why I've never mentioned it.

Blimey. It took this long for that old chestnut to appear.

Rolex Milgauss
This was the first thing I thought when I read this topic- fantastic looking things, pretty unusual.
I don't know whether they're commanding the same sort of waiting lists with ADs that many other Rolex are, but the GMTs aside they're the only ones that really tickle my pickle.
don’t buy a new one kidda. My one was valued at £2750 and that’s with all the papers. box and a letter of authentication from an AD.

Other thoughts on rolex.

If you show a row of rolex watches to a woman the two that will be picked for a man will be either the datejust or the milgauss.

if the woman is allowed to pick a watch for herself it will be the daytona or the sub.

as a piece of jewellery the now discontinued Cartier roadster with the rocky bracelet trumps them all.

And a perfectly valid viewpoint.

Interesting point, I don't think I had considered that.

Yep.
And, as nice as the rose gold day date is (I genuinely love these in RG - kudos for not going for something predictable) you are in Patek/AP/JLC (and others) territory....and 35K buys an awful lot of watch. Even moreso if you go pre-owned or from a grey.

Another one with no time or patience for stupid AD games either.

Soooo - you’re 25 years old, and ‘from a working class background’ and looking to spend 35 grand on a watch......?

Must be the school holidays.

AD games?

You’re blaming the ADs for having zero stock of the popular watches?
This topic has been done to death. The OP likes a particular Rolex or two and is willing to pay. Of course there are other watches available, and I’m never going to criticise anyone’s choice. Well, as long as it’s their choice, and they wear the thing.

It’s a funny old world. Buy a house, nobody slates you. Eat out in an expensive restaurant? Great!
Buy an iPhone or Rolex? Some here have a cardiac arrest.

Nice problem to have. Rolex at that price, I would go for an all gold Daytona in a heartbeat. £29k. White gold with blue dial would be mine. You might like the red gold with black reverse panda dial. Both easy to source. Don’t go from pictures. These are stunning when you handle them.

The watch dealer next to the lloyds building usually has two on show in the window to the side of the shop. About ten years ago when i was on lunch i used to take a peek to see what he had on display that day to lift my spirits when i was having a bad one.

I used to think the White Gold was a real thing. Some time later, When i was in a position to buy one, i bumped into an owner at a pool party, the woes of scratches and discolouration of the white gold put me off and he advised me to buy a steel one and get the dial swapped.

I couldn’t do it so i ended up with something else and kept the white gold daytona as a grail watch.

Firstly, why so judgmental and negative?

Secondly,

From 17 I started a YouTube and affiliating channel (which I eventually fell off) and used the money made to invest in ‘flipping’ like the iPhones and ps4 games consoles (when resell was at a stupid premium 70-100%). Stocks and shares (with advice from my uncle who was a financial consultant with a major UK bank for over 40 years). Go take a look at the share prices for Lloyd’s , Greggs, Anglo American and s4 capital over the past 5 years as a small example of some I own!!

I graduated from university a few years ago and began working. However, I still invest regularly and have made some decent money off it.

Just because someone’s from a working class background doesn’t limit the amount of money they can make or their level of intellect.

Take your negative vibes elsewhere.

Not all white gold is created equally. Rolex make their own alloy, techically a grey gold I suppose, with no plating. It is a uniform colour throughout and will not discolour over time.

Thanks for this, will definitely take a look.

I have taken the plunge and booked an appointment with my local AD for Saturday.

Let’s see how it goes I guess smile

Has a boss and a colleague with £15 watch. Seems legit, most employees can afford a £35k watch.

Lol why so negative, please explain?

I asked for advice if you don’t have anything constructive to add just don’t waste your valuable time. I’m sure you have better things to do.

How about a sub? I know there's a lot of talk of waiting lists, and some models are definitely far harder to get hold of (daytona, batman etc) however there's plenty of stories on here of people putting their name on a '2 year+' waiting list for a sub, only to receive a call within a couple of months.

I did exactly the same so can vouch for it, right before last Xmas when people were going even crazier for them! My dad had gone into the AD on a whim to explain I wanted one and get me on the list, low and behold I got the call about a month later - only stipulation was I had to go in on that day and buy it there and then, which of course I did.

It's a beautiful thing and I'm glad I 'played the game' in the end. Good luck!

Thank you so much. Have an appointment Saturday definitely always loved the two tone subs.

Did you have to drop a 20% deposit for waiting list etc? Or is this dealer specific
