The values are bonkers. They are being created by Rolex withholding stock. It's a 9k watch but the fact that Rolex are drip feeding and refusing to supply means sharks have pushed that price up to 20k
Do Rolex withhold stock? From where does that story originate?

I’d very much doubt it’s true. Rolex don’t control world markets, and when/if the markets take a big dip and interest rates climb, they’d be left with a mountain of watches they might struggle to sell at anything like list.

More conspiracy theory.
They make them in limited numbers....whether that is classified as controlling the market I don’t know. I was told years ago by a Rolex dealer that they allocated the production os watches like the SS Daytona to dealers that sell the highest margin/most profitable watches...so the god awful ones made of gold and covered in diamonds etc.

I know ceramic Daytonas are going over list and always have done since their release.

I’ve always thought £15k was the going rate but I as surprised to see a page on Facebook where a respected dealer was selling one for £19.5k! I didn’t know they had risen to that level.
A fool and their money are easily parted.
How so?

If you’d have paid over list for one at £15k (like I did) then if it’s a white face and worth say £19k 18 months later then why does it make me a fool?

Also, if I’d have paid £15k for a hublot and got a decent discount off list for it and it’s now worth £12k then that difference in change to your ‘bet worth’ is quite large. If you do that in many aspects of your life (cars, houses, furniture, art) etc then it can make a big difference
Why don’t you buy up all the £19k watches if your so sure they will keep going up in value?
I do buy quite a few
How many £19k Ceramic Daytonas is “quite a few” ?
I haven’t paid £19,000 for one yet but they’re worth that or more now but anyway it’s each to their own. I could be wrong and could end up looking foolish. We all have a view

I went to my local AD today, granted looking at another brand but I've bought Rolex from them before - I'm pretty well known/respected

My wish list was two watches and a GMT Pepsi

Watch no1 - my preference. Might be upto 12 months wait - granted its very limited so circa 6 available in the uk this year.

Watch no2 - my preference no2. Might be upto 12 months wait - granted its very limited so circa 12 available in the uk this year.

Watch no3 - not really my preference but a GMT Pepsi. Right from the off (and lets just consider I've spent a pretty credible amount of £££££ at this AD) no chance. Not even a chance of being on the waiting list - reserve list? maybe.

Best guesstimate was 5 years+ for a GMT or anything else

Utter farce. And totally transparent that the whole issue of availability was due to flipping.
Maybe not as well known/respected as you thought?

sorry couldn't resist biggrin
fking lol

Here’s the 2003 receipt for my brand new 116520 - waited 6 years for it....

I paid that in 2004 for my WF Daytona and acquired my Black Faced Daytona a year later for the same amount.

The black faced watch has never been worn , I was offered £12k for it last year but declined, maybe just as well

When I collected my Tudor GMT from the same AD that i'm waiting on the never never for a Daytona, he said he was invited to the Rolex factory earlier this year and took a ride up a mountain close by to a Boutique at the top. On sale was a new white faced Daytona! So they are around.
Rolex Boutique in Barcelona said their wait is apparently 6 yrs plus and only to their very highest value customers. The sales rep in there said in South America they are easily available so are Rolex pointing towards new markets...?!

No idea he didn't say and I didn't ask. I was happily playing with my new Tudor GMT!

Just seen a preowned white dial ceramic going for 24k on Watch Club!

https://www.watchclub.com/rolex/cosmograph-daytona...

I hope “Mr G Marshall” of York isn’t hoping to get his hands on any more sought after Rolex references..... WC have done him up like a kipper there!

I keep looking at Daytona’s but I can’t pull the trigger on a steel model. I love the white dial with ceramic bezel but would not pay £20-25k. When I try on a steel bezel black or white dial and a ceramic black dial they don’t get my heart pumping. I have also seen a white gold panda dial but it is £26k and been I the shop window for several months.

However I have started liking the two tone models and gold models. It started two years ago when I was in the Rolex boutique next to McLaren London. They had several gold Daytona’s. Then I noticed gold models becoming more fashionable. I think the prices of steel models make the gold models better value. I can’t help but think the the two tone black dial is the best value Rolex on the market and has one of the classiest and understated dials. Maybe that is the Daytona for me???

Absolutely agree. 116503 black dial is the sweetspot in the Daytona range at the moment imo. Hard to come by though. You can likely order a white dial version but black dial is an allocation only model, at least according to AD’s I know. Very few unworn available 2nd hand either. You might want to request one ASAP if it is the one for you.
