Whilst I’m in the topic of Daytona’s, will the yellow gold with white face likely be easy ish (easier) to obtain. Caught my eye after I tired in a zenith Chrono sport rose gold. Like the look but less pink (pink gold) so the Daytona fits that
That Zenith you tried on is the watch I will get, one day. I love it.

ETA - broke in page 500 (at least on my phone). Hurrah!

It’s wasn’t as thick as I feared it would wear, really like it. Just my wife and I agreed looked too pink against my skin. Yellow gold is what I want.

As a dark brown chap, I have the opposite problem. Yellow gold is too obvious and a bit Gangsta. Rose works well. My wedding ring is rose gold. The metal looks less pink against dark skin.

Wife has pale white skin (redhead, so very pale) and likes yellow gold against her skin as it suits her colouring. Silver colours are lost against her very light skin. Her engagement and wedding ring are yellow gold, as is the special watch I bought her.

Like me, she doesn't like precious metal bracelets on watches - too much.

Olive-skinned people are the lucky ones. They can pretty much get away with anything.

I'm looking at the following all around 10k, offered by a mate

DSSD (mark 1 / black) [116660]
GMT black bezel [116710]
Sub date 16610

I am thinking the DSSD is too thick (unlike most PHers I don't have the physique of a Samoan rugby player)

so that leaves me with

GMT better quality than the Sub vs Sub more classic
Also GMT bracelet polished may scratch quite easily

What do people think?

No bad choices between the GMT and the Sub, rightly or wrongly I treat my divers with a little less respect than my GMT so in "my mind" they feel a little "tougher".

I have no qualms about wearing my divers on building sites, the GMT is a little more saved for best. I wouldn't worry about the PCLs, they scratch but so do brushed ones. You can get them brushed if you like a little less flash or even better get a nice rubber strap if you want to, that reference looks great on a black band or green and you can switch it up.

I quite like that that reference has sort of flown under the radar since the bi-colour ceramics have come out, it'll be a future classic I'm sure and isn't as garish as the coloured ones.

But then you have the sub, it's a classic now as it'll ever be.

If you are of slim build I'd say the 16610. The narrower lugs make the watch better proportioned and it won't look so big on you.

I also think "why is his friend selling these watches? Is he cashing out?"

FWIW i have a 124060 41mil. Love that watch but it does have quite a presence. In many respects i wish now i bought a 114060 but i bagged this one at a year old for basically the same price with all the new tech.

I do like the 21mm bracelet though personally as i think it looks more in proportion to the case.

I'm not sure what's going on with this brand at the moment as there's so many mixed reviews, although i've been advertising my 214270 for three weeks or so and this time a year ago that would be long gone / sold.

What other watches do you have? If you don't have a GMT, I think it is a nice complication to have and I am a fan of the black bezel.

Undoubtedly the GMT has a better made bracelet, but personally I prefer the lighter weight and slimmer style of the 5 digit references. They are much classier IMO which makes them versatile, and they will reach classic status sooner than the GMT. If you prefer a tool watch look, you could always have the GMT bracelet brushed to tone it down a bit. The polished clasp takes a beating anyway, so brushing it isn't a bad option.

The GMT complication is nice if you travel a lot or if you work with people/have family in a different time zone. But I find a dive bezel more practical in daily use, timing eggs or a pizza in the oven for example.

I would choose depending on condition and spec of the Sub. If the Sub is a later model with SELs and Super Luminova then that's the one I would go for. As much as I like the look of open lug holes and aged Tritium dials, I like my watches to be functional. The SELs have a much more solid feel than the hollow end links.

Something else to consider do all watches come with box/papers/etc?

The gold 41mm Navi that sold on Watchcollecting for 2.2K today was extremely tempting but I don't know enough about them. Great looking watch though.

They're getting some really interesting watches at the moment.

Agree with all of this having owned all 3 at some point!

Absolutely couldn’t get on with the Mk1 Deepsea despite having owned 45-48mm Breitlings

Have worn my 116710 on a Sub beacelet because I didn’t want the polished centre links

I have found that I much prefer 5 digit Subs and GMTs despite the rattle!

You can look forward to the shiny gold going matt/brushed over time. biggrin Mine was polished back to original when I had it serviced, but I’m sure it’ll go duller again over the next few years.

Is that site legit? Genuine watches?
