Sorry should have clarified, my date sub is a stainless version.

Perhaps need to take greater care with a Rootbeer or other metals.
I wouldn't have stainless watches polished either.

They can be brought back with laser welding and having the cases reworked but better not to risk it.

I did manage to scrape the rose gold bezel against a brick wall whilst plugging some cables into some speakers recently, so it's no longer a pristine example anyway...
I scraped the bezel of my sub on the floor of a concrete pool when playing with the kids. The metal bezel and the insert were both damaged. I don’t know if your insurance would, but mine paid for the replacement of both.

My Yellow and white gold watches are scratched and bashed to death despite being less than 2 years old.

It's a difficult one really. Sometimes I'd like them to be perfect but what's the point in owning them if you aren't going to wear them!

I am a "user" of my things though, I've never really understood keeping utilitarian things "for best". Reminds me of my grandma's silver service that she died at 91 having never used once.

I think they polish all watches regardless of what service it is. As above, you can ask them not to.

My OH's steel datejust jubilee (non-fluted bezel) has just been returned from Rolex London looking new and I approved the polish. It took almost exactly 4 weeks. I probably wouldn't have a fluted bezel polished as they can look less sharp.

I would add that I don't have my watches serviced until they stop working - there seems little point as the cost of a service and the cost of a repair (unless there's some catastrophic damage) are almost identical.
Thanks.
Other people have also adviced me that it doesn't really make sense to service a watch unless there's a problem.

That's an interesting combination!

You have similar skin tone to me I think...the Rolex rose gold was made for us!

And the Liger curved end matt stippled leather one.

Curved end straps are a bd to fit, despite owning a Rolex spring bar tool.

This strap doesn't photo well. In real life, the texture on the leather is less obvious, and it really dresses the watch down and gives off an excellent 70s vibe to it.

Much less dressy than the Hirsch black leather, which is exactly what I was after. I wanted some sort of louche '70s safari vibe. And that's what I got!

Agreed! Yellow gold is too brash against our skin. My wedding ring is rose gold too...

Liking that one a lot!

Added bonus is that it's a tad less likely to catch the eye of muggers as it doesn't conform to what they're looking out for.

The bezel finish and how it reflects light screams "I'm a Rolex".

Looking at the pictures, the watch seems way too big with the lugs not finding the required wrist real estate to fit. I suggest the wearer find a smaller watch with less heft.

I'll take an angle grinder to it and get it down to a suitable size, just so you're happier.

Or eat some pies, to beef up my "wrist real estate".

The GMT has straight lugs so doesn't sit right.

The cyclops over the date tells people that it's a Rolex. Mine has been removed as I think it looks st.

For that reason I was thinking about one of those protective films just for the clasp on my gold pieces. I know people will criticise but I just don't like there to be deep scratches on a watch that is used for special occasions.
Shhhhhh......(whispering).......I use those Invisible Shield phone screen films. A quid from eBay - look for an old obsolete phone like a LG G4. I only use them just on the clasp. Cut the shape of the clasp from the sheet, and apply with the liquid spray that they come with.

They do fray at the edges after a while but it's a simple case of ripping it off and replacing.

I think you can make it out on this clasp:

My 23 year old sub has been serviced once , only because it stopped working.

It’s worn every day.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I am inclined to agree.
