I understand that. My point is, I am able to get a highly sought after Rolex now, which i can then sell at a premium, because there is a waiting list, because these VIPs are giving them out to people like me. It makes the whole waiting list things seem a bit silly. Its artificial.
May I ask, what do you mean by “people like me”?

What is it about you that makes VIPs want to jeopardise their deals to do something like this for you?

people need to stop supporting this overinflated market by not buying them at crazy prices.
I’ve only once paid over the list price for a watch, and that was at a charity auction where I paid extra for the black and blue bezel one, based on the auctioneer “accidentally” misconstruing my bid.

I didn’t mind, it was a very worthwhile charity, and it got me a watch that I really liked that I think ai would have had to wait for otherwise.

Some of my watches I just bought when passing through the airport and seeing that they had in stock, and only one of them I had to wait for, which was the ceramic Daytona.

I don’t think that I’ll ever sell any of them, they were bought because I like them, not to turn a profit, and I still like the, all.

There’s one that I’m equivocal about, a black-faced steel Daytona, so I’m thinking of having it customised.

tormzy, young man of the moment, on Jonathan Ross the other night looked like he was wearing a black Sub..
He would be a rarity in a scene of idiots who covet such Jacobs and such garish timepieces. Also would be more in keeping with his style as he favours black stab vets.

Friends or family of theirs I suppose?

My workmate is old school friends with someone in a Rolex dealership. He’s always getting offered and buying hard to get SS sports watches. I suppose by buying them he’s become a valued customer now but the dealer often asks him if he has any mates who want one. About four guys at my work are wearing 116710 BLNRs through him.

There must be all sorts of ways of jumping lists depending on who you know. It’s like anything really. If you were running a Rolex dealership and had massive long lists of people you didn’t particularly know wanting one and people asking most days if any are in OR you have friends you like and their friends wanting them who would you sell to?

If you were a VIP and Rolex were offering you watches, would you pass on the love to your friends? Maybe the VIPs don’t even like the Rolexes in the first place.

Waiting on a list (if it’s even real) must be the worst way to get a hard to get Rolex.

As for the thread title, it looks like prices are holding up on the SS watches I’ve been watching.

It’s not that scientific but I’ve just followed a few on chrono24 to see used vales.

Eg.

Discontinued GMT 116710 LN

Or a sub

Is this what they get listed at or transact at?

From chrono24

As I said it’s not that scientific but prices seem inline with other sites except watchfinder, which is always a bit more.

Talk about bad timing, I've been looking for a new GMT for about two months now. Every time I walk through an airport or major city, I pop in and ask the official reseller if they have one.

I'm holding out a little hope for Hong Kong, they have three official stores on the Island in Wan Chai alone (and about 8 more scattered around), and with the major downturn in foot traffic, maybe, just maybe...

Do you think I should contact them first, offer up a deposit etc..?
I'm there in mid-January.

Lastly, I hate the steel bracelet, I intend to swap it out with a rubber version or even nato.

Other black vets. Stabbing is the no.1 killer of black vets. But it's not because they're black, it's because society has let them down.

I have a few 26/27 year olds who work for me.

One has has a steel Datejust41

Another is saving hard for a bi metal DJ41.

Both think my DSSD is boring and have no interest whatsoever in Sports Rolexes. Both mostly want/wanted a fluted bezel for bling factor.

Instagram generation...fluted bezels shine more in pics I guess.

I don't really love the fluted bezel on mine, but I hate it far less than the smooth one which is really quite boring IMO.

My wife has a bimetal one and 100% the cut on newer models looks sharper. Though it marks easily...

I was there a few weeks ago. Gave up after about 10 shops saying no!

If so I would not want to see her bikini line.

4 people in your workplace have the same Rolex ? That’s what makes it weird to me, it hardly makes them rare so does it ?

Ps I am in no position to comment, I doubt the day will ever come that I can afford a decent replica smile
