Had my Breitling serviced by them recently. Sent it to them in July and got it back after about 10 weeks. Had to send it to them again because the watch changed date 10 minutes past midnight. Previously it changed at mid night. They said it was within tolerance. So next time I will go to goldsmiths to get it serviced.

Thanks for the reply, that doesn’t fill me with confidence. Goldsmiths are an option but I’m looking at an outfit called watchguy as an option.

I've recently had a couple of mine worked on at watchguy. You need to 'apply' for a service spot via the website, I think I waited a week for a response for one watch but only a day for the other. Within that response you get a service reference number, you're notified when they both receive and start work on your watch, 'photos when work is in progress, mine were both approx. 4 week turnaround and were posted back the day after payment.

In short, I'd use them again.

Thanks, I’ve requested the service number so I’ll see how long they take to reply. Their reviews seem good, but also turn down a lot of work it seems.

Watchguy was spot on for my Rolex service.

Took about 5 weeks in total, the best bit was all the pictures you get!

Do you think they were incapable of pushing the minute hand 60 degrees anticlockwise, or were unable to work out that was all they needed to do?
I'd like to pass comment on Goldsmiths' service too, but apparently you get into trouble for making monkey noises these days.

We really ought to get a sticky on servicing.
There are two PHers who take watches in to be serviced, Variomatic (who is far too busy to post these days) & Rigga.

Variomatic is Joe. Google the Anglesea Watch Company.
Riggathemighty is an active poster. You'll find him here abouts.

Alternatively, go to the BHI's website. They have a list of qualified members who take repairs. It is ordered by area, so easy to find someone near you.

These small independents can service your watch. They will do so just as capably as any of the bigger boys. A service is a strip down and clean. Followed by reassembly and oiling. Your watch should be good for another ten-ish years thereafter.
The indies can do waterproofing checks, replace seals, crystals etc. etc. All the stuff you actually need.

If you have a problem, the independents may be able to fix it, it depends what's wrong. Most of the time, problems can be sorted without needing replacement parts. Recently the Swatch (ETA) group decided to stop selling parts and supply is drying up. An awful lot of modern watches have ETA movements. So the independent watchmaker may or may not be able to help, depending on what's inside, what's wrong and whether they can get the part.

The next rung on the cost ladder are accredited service centres like Swiss Time Services. These guys can get parts from ETA. They typically have access to some of the more expensive processes too. STS can add metal to your case then machine it back to the original finish. Ideal for removing a heavy dent or undoing the damage of over enthusiastic polishing.
When it comes to a plain and simple service, you get exactly the same work done as the independent does, just at twice the price.

Finally you have the full main dealer, trousers around your ankles service. You should ensure that the watch isn't the only thing that's properly lubricated. Again, you'll get exactly the same service as the independent. The main dealers have been known to ruin your watch decide to replace dial and hands too.

Remember, most problems are solved with a service and no need for replacement parts.

Thanks for the info, don’t mind paying a fair cost for a good service and hopefully keep my trousers on!
