Wearing this today. Really developed a liking for cheap vintage manual winds this year.

As she turns to him, her burning desire pulsing through her body. She looks him in the eye and runs her hand down his torso. Then she sees it, the glinting of a stainless steel sports watch. "Is that a Daytona?", she asks in a sultry lustful tone. "No, its actually an Omega Speedmaster, it went to the moon after a rigorous testing and approval procedure." By the time he has finished his monologue, she has left. They both have an empty feeling inside.

hehe

Arousing with some chronological details. A bit niche but did it for me.

This today, I'm not really dressed for it but I am not going to have a reason to put on a shirt for a while, so I might as well just wear it anyway.

This is the only manual wind vintage I have....given to me about 30 years ago by my Grandad RIP.

Still runs and keeps great time....I do wear it now and again I contemplated replacing the strap but then it wouldn't be 'as gifted'.

Here's my only manual wind watch. Belonged to my Grandfather, recently serviced and being kept safe in my watch box.

That’s lovely. Would look great on a leather but like you said would take away from the sentimental gift aspect.

I’m currently scanning eBay for more. I have a sickness haha.

That’s lovely too. Old rotary watches are a thing of class. I have no idea where they went wrong over the years.

I doubt I will ever understand the vaguaries of watch brands. Omega (and Rotary to an extent) being cases in point. Omega make watches that are at least as good as Rolex, in many cases better, and yet they have a different value - both monetarily and in brand terms. I have examples of both, so I have no axe to grind and I am not selling them.

It's more than marketing - although that is a significant factor of course.

I’m sure a lot of it is product placement. Rolex intentionally or not have been mentioned in tv, film and music for a good few decades. I’m a fan of both as well. Funnily enough thinking about it now. Adults that I looked up to in person tended to have Omegas a few either had classic dress watch styles or constellations and icons or whatever you want to call them tended to have Rolex, think Bond, Magnum etc.

I'm fortunate to have a father that has, unbeknownst to me until recently, has been an avid collector of watches. Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Jaegre le Coutre and a few other brands of relative distinction.
A very discerning collection and possibly in total at least ten times his outlay.
He has never worn any of the Rolex because he is not 'flash'.
We laugh when he suggests it would be a better name for loo roll than a watch.

If I remember correctly she was just adding red lipstick to match the outfit.

As any gentleman will know, collars and cuffs should match.

Let's just say a good time was had by all, the speedy's coaxial reserve ended up fully charged and needless to say, I had the last laugh!

I think they just found their niche, made money, and kept at it.

The watch world is a bit weird. Just look at Daniel Wellington: cheaply made Chinese junk that flies off the shelves at high prices.

bazza.
