Yep, watched that yesterday. It really is a remarkable fake.

Having said that, so are the latest Rolex Sub clones from the likes of Noob etc.

I think they said 400 quid, 10% of a new one. I know if I was buying used it would be a very tricky time nowadays. It's like the art would with so many fakes fooling the experts.

It's impressive how they are now going to the trouble of dressing up cheaper movements to look more like the real thing on open case backs. Makes me scared to buy used without taking an expert along with me.

Some of the fakes are remarkable; as has been said it's often the movement where peoole can tell conclusively as the printing etc on the dial is getting better and better.

On one fake Rolex video, they were able to identify the movement as fake by pointing out that a real rolex doesn't have a lever to regulate the movement. You would have to be really looking for this to spot it and if you were an excited buyer it woul dbe very easy to miss.

Thankfully, I won't be caught out buy this sort of thing as I'm dirt poor and in no position to buy a rolex. hehe, no, wait, frown

It's impressive how far fakes have come, gone are the days of it just being a $1 quartz movement stuffed in a vaguely close case.

Facebook marketplace is full of fakes that are pretty damn close to the real thing.

There's also now a huge market for fake vintage Rolex's, even real Rolex owners are buying them as the originals are so far out of reach. The worrying thing about the vintage fakes is that they are better made and have better movements laugh

I suppose not much different from artificial diamonds.

If they are indistinguishable from the real thing, then the only reason to have the real thing is just a feeling of authenticity. If the fake keeps time as well, functions as well, weighs the same then there has to be a big market.

There are so many watches that are only available on the secondary market, so some people are going to get conned big time - and that's going to hurt.

I've seen that Omega video too - even alongside the real watch, it's hard to tell. Seen in isolation, you wouldn't know.

I watched this the day it was released. As an owner of said watch (albeit in black) I tested myself to see if I could tell. If it was alone, even with a loupe I wouldn't be able to tell. Side by side, the giveaway for me was the sweeping second hand. The fake uses a 28,800 movement and the genuine, a 25,600. Ironically, this means the genuine has a more jerky movement, whilst the fake seems to glide more.

If they actually managed to use a 25,600 movement, now that would be scary....

They aren’t dressing up basic movements though now. They’re making a piece by piece replica of the genuine movement. Watchfjnder had a video of a fake Rolex Daytona recently. They had done a full copy of the movement (even though the watch has a solid caseback)! Same with that Omega, the video shows that the coaxial movement in the fake is based entirely on the real one. Unless I’m thinking of a different one?

I can’t remember how they identified the Rolex fake - I think it was under magnification you could see some of the text wasn’t as sharp with the colour bleeding slightly at the edges. There were other things too, if you knew where to look, but nigh on impossible to tell at a glance, even quite difficult to tell if you got hold of the watch and had a really good look at it!

You don’t even need the £400 fakes either.

I was playing about with a £80 fake Rolex sub recently and from 1ft away (on the wrist) everybody would be fooled. When it’s in your hand I’d say most watch people would identify as fake after a good look as the bracelet and clasp let it down - but my wife was hook line and sinker.

Be careful where and who you buy from.

Where would you buy a 'quality' fake like that?

Visited Kuala Lumpur recently. Streetmarkets were selling average fakes, but as I was curious how far I could get I asked some detailed questions about movements. 30seconds later was taken upstairs to a 'shop' which could have passed for a decent watch store. Full of these top quality fakes including the papers and boxes. £350-£400 for a full set Rolex Deepsea, Pateks, Jaegers, IWC, Hublot etc..

And full of shoppers. I'm sure some of these will be finding their way into well known online websites.

And no, I wasn't even tempted, visited out of curiosity only!

With advances in technology it's just going to become more and more common and accurate.

I remember watching a 'how is it made' episode on a Panerai and thinking it looks so simple to machine what's stopping someone replicating the method?
Not a lot it seems, shows how overpriced the originals are.
Edit: episode here https://youtu.be/60TG8bifcDc

Thanks, did check and found a plethora of sites, most decidedly dodgy.
I did find one that looked good but when I checked some T&C's they had been copied from a footwear websitelaugh
Whilst I'd consider a replica, I'd still look for a reputable seller!
