That is really bad. Like the £30 fakes you picked up in Spain of years gone past. Not even automatic but they haven't even got the dimensions right...lostkiwi said:
Technically Blancpain is the oldest registered watch brand.
There are others are older.
and...your point is ?? If we're going to include random blokes making time instruments in the 15/16/17 hundreds we may as well go back to the Greeks and the sun dial There are others are older.

For example:
1466 Gallett
1681 JeanRichard
1695 Graham
1721 Raketa
All predate Blancpain (1735)
Blancpain also had a gap in production meaning Vacheron Constantin (1737) are the oldest brand in continuous production.

That there were earlier watch makers producing watches/timepieces to sell.

Mate, it's a stupid argument. The world of horology has apparently been unanimous in accepting that Blancpain is the oldest watch brand.......but you have decided in your own little bubble that there is an alternate reality which needs to correct this gross mis-justice in historical fact. Go for it, if it makes you feel better.........For example:
1466 Gallett
1681 JeanRichard
1695 Graham

Calm down, grumpy. It's a thread about fakes, and you're getting arsey about who was the first watchmaker?

It's off topic but take some time out to read this - it's actually quite interesting and I'm sure most would learn something.

Yes it's a post about fake watches, so whichever real Swiss watchmaker came first is not that relevant to the Chinese mega factories that are producing these (quite impressive) copy watches. But I did bring up BlancPain. The poster above is correct. BlancPain is regarded as the oldest but it did go bust and stop producing for a while. So its not the oldest in 'continuous production'. But yes, regarded by all its peers as the oldest.
Does that matter to China? No. Or the buyers of fake BlancPain watches? No. Or 99.99% of any population? No.
But it matters to me. And probably most reading this thread who like watches and admire the work and design and craftsmanship etc. Maybe a bit of 'look what I'm wearing' too. Sad but that's life these days in certain environments.
All part of the experience of a piece of jewellery on your arm. We all have the time (atomic clock) in our pocket. These items therefore become jewlerly. Nothing wrong with that. I don't care if someone wears 100 pounds or 100,000 pounds on their wrist.

If somebody is wearing a £100 piece of jewellery pretending it’s worth £100,000 that’s going to upset some people who’ve paid out £100,000 for what looks like (and may even be, to all intents and purposes) the same.Edited by seastorm on Saturday 15th February 10:22
