Birth Year And Sentimental Watches
Discussion
I've noticed one or two birth year watches pop up on other threads however I don't think that we've ever had a thread dedicated to them, so here we are... I'm going to include those with sentimental value as well, watches that may have been left by loved ones or bought to mark a significant occasion, for example.
Here's my '73 (I'll save you the maths - I'm 47 ) Seiko 6117-6400 'World Time' with the company's first ever GMT movement, the 6117B - there's a 6117A as well, the difference being that the B hacks. It's not a 'true' GMT in that, in this instance, the red GMT hand is permanently fixed to the hour hand and rotates once for two rotations of the other, the rotating inner bezel is used to calculate times in other cities. Despite having a number of watches in my collection and even more pass through my hands over the last decade this is my first and only BY watch, bought just a few weeks back.

1979 Omega, was a wedding gift from my wife, given to me by my best man on the morning of the day in Lake Como.
Nowhere near the most financially valuable watch I own, but certainly the most special, she did well for someone that knows less than nothing about watches (doesn't even wear one).
Fresh from a battery change and clean up on Sunday.

Both of my premium watches are keepers and hold sentimental value.
My Tag F1 I bought myself for my wedding, I love it - it's used quite frequently but isn't quite my daily. Obviously the memories connected with it are great and it features in a lot of our wedding photos.
My Breitling Chronomat 38...I won! I entered an online raffle with good odds for a few quid and was lucky enough to win. The sentimental aspect for me is the feeling I got reading the email in what has been a pretty crap year for me and most people. I'll remember it forever. Part of the appeal of this watch for me is I never would have chosen it - I would have gone for the more tried and tested models at this price point (Tudor/Omega) and love that it's different. I considered selling it for a few moments but decided against it and will keep it for special occasions.

I bought myself an omega planet ocean for my 30th I've worn this pretty much every day apart from the occasional bit of g shock and a brief stint with an apple watch.
I've now added a speedy Pro for my 40th which I now wear at the weekend and the PO still remains the weekday watch.
I'm sure I'll get something in a couple of years for my 50th but I might keep an eye out for a birth year one.

I really like both of those very nice. My Tag F1 I bought myself for my wedding, I love it - it's used quite frequently but isn't quite my daily. Obviously the memories connected with it are great and it features in a lot of our wedding photos.
