What would you buy for £2k

Nice reduction on this Hamilton chrono. Black strap though if that's a deal breaker.

Could agree more.
I bought a TAG for £800 in 2005, sold it this year for £500.
It changed my view on expensive watches.
…and I know that wouldn’t be deemed expensive by some.
I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. I bought a sea master in 2001, it’s worth more now. I bought a submariner in 2015, it’s worth double now - for perspective. I bought a TAG for £800 in 2005, sold it this year for £500.

Good question.
Chrono.
And i have a penchant for a tan leather strap. Don't like bracelets.
I haven’t seen a Longines Bigeye but it has very positive reviews. I bought a Hydroconquest years ago and would have no hesitation in recommending Longines as a brand. Chrono.

Bigeye currently on sale at Fraser Hart… ETA just realised it is the discontinued version that is on sale but nevertheless I think it merits consideration

That an expensive watch could ever be an asset, or something that could cost less than a Casio over its life.I used to think people that dropped £10k on a watch were just flash feckers. Then I sold my (pretty crappy) TAG for only £300 less than I paid - 30 years later! Made me think that dropping £5k on a watch is somewhat a win win - providing you buy right.
What are the smart investment? LE versions?

Stunning watch that. Never considered Longines. Any good? Bigeye currently on sale at Fraser Hart… ETA just realised it is the discontinued version that is on sale but nevertheless I think it merits consideration

Longines? Absolutely. Couldn't be happier with my Hydroconquest especially considering the price. They are a credible brand with a rich history - which they are making the most of with their heritage lines. The Bigeye gets solid positive reviews - with your budget and requirements it has to go on the short list.
Longines are really excellent.
Anyway, TAG Heuer: fine looking watches, fantastic brand recognition in the UK (equal with Omega and behind only Rolex, in my view), but they do some seriously daft things.*
Plastic movement holders have no place in a ‘luxury’ watch.
But, as always, get what you like, wear it and enjoy it!
...* I am not a Tag hater, in fact my wife wears a 1994 Tag S/EL automatic that I bought and had restored for her.

I just cant gel with TAG for some reason, I think it might be that there's a TAG discount store (Bicester) near me.
Tudor and Omega for me. Saying that I probably would have a vintage TAG or ever Huerer.
Breitling also have discount store there so I assume that you hold them in the same regard?Tudor and Omega for me. Saying that I probably would have a vintage TAG or ever Huerer.
I have two TAG's, one a 2000 series professional from the mid 90s and a Carrera Calibre 5 bought in 2017. Neither cost retail. I like them, couldn't really care less about what anyone else thinks about them, so OP, if a TAG is what you want then do so and be happy with your choice.

Sinn make some amazing watches. I think that would be a great choice.
Yep, or Damasko with their in-house upgraded 2824-2 evolution movement. The problem is that neither has any brand recognition at all amongst people that aren’t into watches.
That might be an issue for the OP; it might not.

This caught my eye, only 200 worldwide though so I was too late to secure one;

This seems to be in stock for anyone interested. I'm tempted but got a Monaco last year and can't justify this.https://www.tagheuer.com/gb/en/timepieces/collecti...

Edit to add that the Longines Bigeye is just flippin' lovely IMO and Sinn chronos are a good shout as well (maybe a 356, 144 or a 103 variant), or how about spending a lot less and getting something even less ubiquitous - https://www.a-13a.com/shop/en/

I've never fully understood the distain for Tag from a lot of watch enthusiasts.
Personally I had wanted one ever since a regular visitor at work wore one when I was a spotty oik of 16.
Given their cost, I never thought I'd ever get one, so buying one in a jewelers in Seattle in 2012 was a huge moment for me. Yes it was only an Aquaracer and it only cost $1k or so but it meant so much to me that walking out of the shop I had a lump in my throat and I couldn't speak.
Fast forward 9 years and I still wear that watch daily and it's a lovely reminder of my life's journey. Last year I added a Raymond Weil to my collection and I'm determined to procure a Milgauss at some point, but that Tag will never leave me.
OP, for your £2k I think I'd be looking for a nice Omega or a Breitling if you can push the budget a little.
