A June 1968 build date Grand Seiko 6146-8000. The GS61 movement is very well regarded and an automatic running at 36000 bph is pretty amazing. The gold capped ones don't seem to be as collectable as the steel as you lose something of the very sharp lines. The gold disk on the back looks in great condition - they wear off with use. Hopefully a clean and an oil away from greatness!
Nice. I really like a Grand Seiko.
As posted above, it’s a 6146-8000 and prices seem to vary a bit for these, with gold examples being worth less.
It could be worth anywhere from £1000-2000, depending on condition etc.
Lovely thing to have, especially given the sentimental value. I would definitely have it serviced and wear it.

Lovely watch, well worth servicing and wearing.
Rather than Seiko, for a cheaper and more sympathetic option I’d contact Mitka (a former protege of Christian Dannemann aka the repairer ‘Watch Guy’).
I’ve not used him but have admired his (and Christian’s) work for a while and he’s done loads of old Seikos previously, as per his work book here - https://workshop.mitka.co.uk/cgi-bin/library?actio... - and he’ll send you photos of each step and only do what you ask.
It would be a fairly specialist polishing job to do proper justice to the sharp original lines of the case, not really something I’d ask Mitka to do (or indeed, anyone to do - I’d not want to polish off the history of your Dad’s wear).
