I think I'd like that Timex better if it wasn't competing for the 'most lines of text crammed onto a watch face' award.

There is a lot, but in fairness it's beaten in the competition by most Rolex!

Brokenskunk, would that be an Omega Constellation that you have blown the watch budget on perchance?

The reference number and case back posted in the other place sort of gives it away.

I am sure Bobberoo would like to see a picture of it here aswell!

Class watch, I assume it is of the vintage variety?
Since 2021 / 2022 ish I've been trying to buy a 1960's Connie. I have quite a specific wish list. A colleague / friend of mine used to wear one, I always admired it. Sadly he took his life shortly after Covid, and I thought "Sod it, I'm gonna buy one just like Mike's."

So I wanted a dogleg pie pan connie in stainless. That's a 168.005 to those on the (watch collecting) spectrum. It had to have a date window, onyx inlays on the hour markers, and the crosshair dial. Me being me, it also had to be in factory fresh condition. Too many of the cases on these are really badly polished, it ruins them. The dials are prone to spotting, when you do find a dial that's not got horological measles, it's usually because it's been re-finished. And because I'm uptight and pernickety that just won't do.

I actually found a watch that met all the criteria last year, but the seller was asking £3700, slightly under double it's true value.

So yes, I've finally found a 168.005 that almost fits the bill. It doesn't have the crosshair dial. Instead it has a Turler branded dial. It doesn't have the iconic BOR bracelet, which would have been nice. But apart from that it does fit all my criteria. Around lunchtime today I am due to meet the seller & hand over two thousand of my hard earnt English pounds in exchange for a 34mm round bit of stainless steel that hails from 1966.

I think I am officially off the rails. I have 52 other watches already, whilst I know logically that I don't need this watch, I still need this watch.

I'll post pictures on the other thread when I get it. It doesn't belong here.

That's actually really nice. I just posted the link but didn't pay that much attention to the actual watches. The teal blue touches are nice and the wee airplane on the leather as well.

15% off if you sign up to receive emails also brings it under thread budget!!

That sounds like quite the mission to find what you wanted. Very glad you did, thanks for explaining the process and hope it lives up to expectations!

Thank you sir. I've said it before, my favourite watch is the one I've most recently bought. smile So far I keep staring at my wrist & thinking "bloody hell...". "bloody hell that's lovely", "bloody hell, I've actually done it.", "Bloody hell, people must think I'm a weirdo, I keep staring at my wrist".
It's only day one of ownership. I wonder how long it will be before I get the itch again.

The photos are in the other place should anyone care.

Another lovely theatre for this evening’s performance of Peter Grimes: the Theatre Royal, Nottingham.

This is the last performance of this successful run. It’s sold-out up and down the country (which says to me they should have done more performances, but hey ho).

I don't find the other watch threads very appealing. Please post it here too. It's the weekend so I'm sure you'll get a free pass.

I completely agree, but on this occasion a wade through the murky waters of the Incoming thread will prove rewarding.

It’s an exceptionally good watch. Wow.

Sadly the 15% discount isn't valid for this watch.

Whilst there I asked a question about what battery for a Duro.

1. Lovely watch Brokenskunk, congratulations, I hope you have many happy hours wearing and looking at it.

2. Palmela, a watch back removal tool from Cousins website, a 2 to 3 £ battery and job jobbed.

3. I don't often wear divers anymore but this is the one that I bought after saying I would never buy another diver. Fabulous watch for me, been wearing it all day, forget how good it is.

4. Flail news, gearbox all fixed but no video, sorry. However, more dodgy old farm machinery is incoming. A ten year wait for a telehandler is nearly over BUT this means that the watch budget is non existant for now. If you like mechanical things, like frivolous boy toys then the telehandler turns it up to 11!
