Wow, how on earth are you buying those bikes so cheap?
Rim braked road bikes are basically unwanted in the UK.

Also, I can cast my net fairly far and wide. I spotted that Trek for sale on Gumtree Stoke, and picked it up on my drive back down to Cardiff after a performance in the Lowry, Salford. Same with the Cube, that was just outside Gloucester, picked up on the same trip back to Wales.

People just want to get rid of stuff that’s gathering dust in a shed and have little idea of its potential value (to me anyway LOL)

I would repeat: I am not going to get rich from this minor Del Boy sideline, but it’s fun and it pays for my travel when I’m in the UK on an opera job.

Interesting. I've been MTBing since the early 90's, and when everything went to disc brakes I honestly thought they were crap. I much preferred the leverage that a good rim brake set up had. Albeit I had upgraded mine to Magura hydraulics so had no bother with cables etc. It took me a long time to really like disc brakes, maybe the early tech just wasn't that great.

The late 90s V-brakes were fantastic, at least in the dry, and the Deore one that didn't have the parallelogram linkage of LX/XT/XTR was great value.

It was just when things got wet and sloppy they weren't so hot.

Before I left the UK I have a pretty successful business buying and selling all kinds of stuff that people just wanted to get rid of.

As this is Pistonheads one of my all time best purchases was a Halda Rally Computer I bought at Chichester car boot sale for a fiver.

^ for perspective, I found one for sale here in Germany.

They’re asking €1300.

I think you did ok there.

A late friend of mine bought exactly the same bit of kit for a tenner at an autojumble where you'd have thought people knew what they were selling.

My best car boot find was a pair of books called " The Grand Prix Car", picked up both volumes for a fiver, sold them for £550 on ebay. Book dealers were asking up to £800 for the pair!

I seem to recall V-brakes being a bit binary on or off, without much modulation - went over the handlebars more than once grabbing the front brake too hard!

But it was a long time ago and I was young, so maybe it was just a skill issue combined with how much more power they had than the cantilever brakes before them.

Back onto watches.... laugh (Although talking of vintage bicycles, I did used to have a lovely Puch road bike that was cool)

I have bought something that shouldn't be in thread budget but nabbed it for a steal on eBay.
I'm currently in Bali, so have asked for it to be delivered to a neighbour!
If it's genuine and in good condition I'll have hopefully bagged another bargain to sit alongside my £190 Tissot Couturier and £180 Hamilton Jazzmaster.

Darn this thread!

Oh in case anyone was wondering (and unlikely I know) I wore my Casio A168 on our travels (been in Kuala Lumpur, Australia (NSW region) and now in Bali)

2 of my bikes have still got Magura rim brakes on them. I think both sets I got in 1994 or 1995…

Not bad for £48 for both the watch and the strap. The Vario build quality is really nice.

Nice. I’m not cool enough to wear those bead things but they look good.

Has that been modded or do they come that way?

I am a fan of the bead bracelet, that much that i actually attempted to reverse image search it with no success,

How do you manage to take such high quality photos? i assume a proper camera setup needed

AE1200s are great

I do like Vario, would never have thought of a bund strap on the World Time, though.

LOL, not modded yet, just the strap change, that's it.

I bought the bracelet of a beach seller in Costa Rica. No, this is just my iPhone 16, but I do know how to take a decent photo.

That bund strap looks great! I just put my ae1200 back on its original strap yesterday. Do you have a link for that strap?

Also, caught a nice shot of my Stuhrling this morning

Well if we are posting AE1200s it would be an insult not to join in
