My eldest received a Seiko 5 for Christmas...another big hit.

Fantastic watch for sub-£100. (Great watch for sub-multiples of that tbh).

Biggest problem now is expectation setting in future years...but a nice problem to have smile
I’ve got that with my lad, this year drove a car for the first time, it was a v12 Aston Martin, next year he says that he’ll drive something decent (Lamborghini). All this before his 13th birthday..

Love the Duro's! Seeing it's a new thread, here are some of my sub £200s, actually all sub £100 except for the seiko5!

The Seiko and Citizens would be my pick of the bunch there..I have two 'beater' Cizitens, both military/aviation inspired dials and they do take a beating...quite literally.

Interested to know where you sourced the straps, they really set the watches off and look decent quality.
The green canvas strap is what came with the Citizen. All the other straps are from good old aliexpress! They were a bargain at less than £5ea delivered, except for the black fabric. The black rubber I've had for a long time but it was also aliexpress. If you don't mind waiting, the aliexpress is so good for cheap and well made straps.

Couple of Xmas purchases. The mothership very kindly bought me a Sugess Chrono 'panda' style watch. Came with a milanese mesh and a leather strap but I opted for a canvas strap in black. Just not a massive fan of leather straps.

That awesome ST1901 movement too, same as my Seagull.

Also bought my eldest a personalised Flik Flak (Swatch) for Christmas. She hasn't taken it off yet so I assume it's a hit!

What is the Sugess like? I've had that on my AliExpress wishlist for a while, was hoping JOMW would do a review.

I've bought a Glycine Combat Sub from Chrono24 for not much over thread budget (the stealth black version), somewhat excited for that to arrive.

Good decision. The PVD black version? They wear unbelievably well.

I changed the strap on my Seagull to the darker one now attached (a recent Gecko sale buy).

Much better.

'Evening all! Been away from PH for a little while and had some catching up to to in the old thread, some really nice watches there - well done thumbup

I see we've got a new place of residence hah.

No new contributions myself, other than a few strap changes. Recently put a red/brown Horween on the SNK to see if I'd like it, it's become permanent smile

It's very good actually, similar quality to the Seagull 1963 although I believe they're both made by Sugess anyway. I'm impressed. JOMW haven't covered it yet but it's near identical to the Seagull and Jody covers one of those on a couple of videos. smile

Enjoy the new sub when it arrives! smile

Excellent. The one I was thinking of was this one, which is similar to mine but in black. It looks pretty good on the rubber strap (but new is likely to be over thread budget)

They’re really decent watches.

It arrived! Not entirely sure how it was so fast, didn’t expect that at all since it was a US seller. Also didn’t get dinged on import duty which is a huge win.

Came with a lot of spare NATO’s which is nice, although not sure I’ll use them on this one (I like it on the black NATO for now).

New it is massively over thread budget (£950 from Jura Watches etc although it did have 15% off on Boxing Day), but used, not that much over. I guess they don’t hold their money but means I don’t have to pay the depreciation!

Liking it a lot right now.

At around a grand new the Glycine is up against some decent competition. Does it hold its own? I'd never heard of them until the mentions here, so what makes them special?

Their USP is the case thickness, or rather lack of it. At 10.5mm only the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 57 is thinner (at 9.9mm), and the Glycine has 200m WR and a screw down crown.

Lug to lug is big at 50mm but the lugs drop sharply down so they wear really well.

Swiss movement, a brand with heritage (founded 1914, so a year before Rolex), well finished, loads of styles and sizes. Overall a decent buy and just about in thread budget pre-owned.

In other news my Tissot PRX Quartz has arrived. Full review with better photos to follow, just in Vienna for the last two shows (fingers crossed that COVID doesn’t rear its ugly head in the cast)
