What's the whole Snoopy thing about? I see it fairly often with watches, particularly Omega and Timex.

I'm 35, perhaps it's before my time? I'm aware of what Peanuts is, but thought it was a cartoon about in decades gone by, much like Garfield or something, but it seems like some sort of cultural icon that completely flew over my head.

Nice watch though, I'm a Timex fan and think they make some decent stuff.

I'm not fully sure, seems a bit of a cult thing.

Even if it arrives and i'm not too keen on it htey are going for silly money on ebay so i wont be out of pocket.

Indeed. And if you ever watch or read any of the Peanuts cartoons/books then Snoopy hardly appears, it is all about that lamer Charlie Brown.

Timex have had a very long association with Snoopy and more recently they brought in the X Peanuts watches, I quite like the fun aspect of them, I'm 52 and remember the Peanuts cartoons from my childhood.

I have three of the Marlin ones, to be honest I rarely wear them but they always make me smile when I look at them.

These are mine:

The fantastic Charlie Brown jazz trio was led by the pianist Vince Guaraldi, who amongst other recordings did the Charlie Brown Christmas album, which is what i generally have on in the background as i prepare Christmas dinner.

Random non-operatic musical anecdote over.

So I had a delivery this morning, I’ll do a little review in a few days after I’ve worn it some more but so far the signs are very positive. It’s a very nice looking watch (thanks Rolex) and think this is definitely going to be a keeper.

Here’s a quick pic to show it off.

I remember listening to 'Snoopy's Christmas' as a kid, probably not quite the same thing...

I came into this world on the same day that Swigert, Lovell & Haise left it.

Sticking with the Snoopy theme; my birth year watch, can't remember how much I paid for it but well within thread budget. I've seen a few for sale and none look as good condition as this one. Being an old git, they made watches bloody small when I was born, so doesn't really get worn. Nice watching the clouds & Red Barron go round though smile

Might be just me, but that is cool AF.

I have the titanium version, it is gloriously weightless and was something like £60 brand new.

(The standard strap is rubbish though. I keep thinking of getting an elasticated loop strap to reduce the weight even further.)

While discussing Lorus field type watches I'm pondering whether to add one of these at some point:

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/1992650

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lorus-RM349JX9-Military-C...

Essentially the same model but they seem to have offered on both a one piece grey NATO and a two piece black strap.

Apparently a re-issue of a Pulsar model, which was in turn similar to a bespoke Seiko chrono model issued to the RAF which are selling for silly money - they might have even issued Pulsars at some point. Just love the dial design on these and they look ace on a NATO.

I have the Pulsar version of this, wears quite nicely despite the 42mm case size. I'm not a Nato fan so have worn this on a brown rally strap and it's currently on a black waffle.

Thanks, good to know as 40-41mm is normally my limit.

I'm not sure on the rules regarding mixing straps for motorsport vs military inspired chronographs, I expect one of the elder statesmen of this thread will be able to clarify smile

It's the Lorus version of the Pulsar gen2 which is current RAF issue. All ultimately owned by Seiko.

Strap wise anything goes, recognising that a cheap watch on an expensive custom strap is a perverse and wonderful pleasure.
