That really is quite delightful! The kindness and camaraderie that brought it into your possession is perhaps even more pleasing. Well done for creating a wee bit of the internet with manners, decency and friendship.

I'm glad it all worked out, and I was happy to do it, this is a great thread to be part of.

Will be back over there in the autumn, there may be a possibility of my being tempted by something else, and I'd like to see if I can get onto that AP activity thing I missed out on booking this trip.

Absolutely. There are some good eggs in here, I love following along. Any opera or skunk updates of late?

I am currently in rehearsal at Opera North in Leeds. Cracking piece too if anyone fancies it:

Shame you're so far up north, would have been good to meet up for a beer.
Looks like a fantastic opera though.

Skunk updates are indeed pending. I've made a tiny amount of progress and I have taken photos. My problem is finding time to write it up. I'm very busy at work and not getting much free time to do the work - let alone post about it.

I also have received a couple of watches to post about. One definitely for this forum, the other not really. But I may post here it anyway.

Perhaps if I finish the family tax returns today...

Took the beads of rice bracelet off the Watchedives so that I could try it on a navy vintage leather strap, really happy with the retro dress watch vibe that resulted. That watch is staying on that strap for now.

I have done something exciting for me with the beads of rice bracelet and improved one of my other watches.

Piccie of Watchedives on leather strap...

Has anyone bought a Hruodland watch? Saw one on Ali Express which looks nice. Spec looks OK. Circa £180 so well within thread budget.

One of the YouTubers (I like watches IIRC) rates them and he handles hundreds of Chinese watches as well as much higher end stuff from the west.

It's clear the Ali stuff is good, and if going after a decent watch that looks cool and has all the right specs then you can't beat that platform.

I'd say I'd trust a well known brand from there as much as many microbrands.

Pondering a trip oop north to see the old folk about the time you're in Manc, never seen an opera so would make a fun new experience. Only recently discovered one of my friends from junior school was a long term tenor of the Royal Opera House Chorus.

Go for it. If you have Spotify or similar I would recommend having a listen to the Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, to see if you like the music. I mean, it’s not mental, it’s accessible, but opera isn’t for everyone and that’ll give you an idea of the sound world of the opera.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

Occasionally in this thread we have a poster asking about wanting a watch, sometimes for the first time as up to now their phone does the job or just want to dip their toe into the water. Sometimes budget is lower than the thread title. Sometimes a threadist has a watch they don't wear anymore. If possible I would like to marry the sometimes together.

The watch below is battered but on a new proprietary strap. The case is wrecked, the crystal scratched to buggery. It is a solar, radio controlled watch and is never more than 2 seconds out of correct time. Never have to set the date on it. The watch is indestructible and my first expensive watch I bought at under half thread budget. It along side this thread started me on my journey.

If anyone, especially a watch newbie, needs a watch, I would like to give it free to a threadist. Amazingly box (made of metal), papers and instruction booklet ARE included.
