Mrs Janluke would like a Dachs at some point. We're down to one JR at the moment and at nearly 16 think a new member would be too much for him

Thank you to all kind threadists with the "blue" options, Pagani and all blue Omega looking the best for now any more offerings?
That all blue Dynamic is not a dial that I have ever seen before. I think the dial is original, there is some flaking of the blue around the hour markers. It's very common for vintage blue dials. I've no idea why, but it is a good indicator that the dial has not been meesed with.
The hands however are not original Dynamic. They should be pointy, not blunt. Only a nerd would ever notice (or care) overall it looks like a decent example at a fair price. Of course you should factor in the cost of a service. And cross your fingers that there a no problems.

Thanks Bobbers for the heads up on the show. I will be there, quite a few brands I would like to see in the flesh, my credit card is cowering in the corner already. Last summer I had four mini breaks with the mountain bike in the New Forest so will combine this riding the bike. What could be better than watches, bike riding and beach at Highcliffe/Mudeford. Throw in some breakfast at Lyndhurst and pub lunches/dinners my absolute 3 to 5 days of bliss.

Well having stayed away from watches for quite a number of years, I'm blaming this specific thread for taking advantage of my weak side!
Being somewhat taken with Timex's current designs, and having fond memories of my old Indiglo Expedition when I was a teen, I have been familiarising myself with their range and making a short list of 'wants'.
By chance, I was then browsing Facebook marketplace for something else entirely and noticed a wanted advert for a very different looking Timex that I'd never seen before. What's this thing I thought? And immediately did a Google search noting one for sale on eBay for humble enough money, but with the worst photos ever seen.
Searching more, and hitting up Instagram yielded virtually no information on this model with only 3 photos on 'the gram', and the only real web info being a couple of discontinued product pages on old websites.
That said, from what I could see it was a lovely watch going by the brochure pics and quite up my street - so thought I would take a punt on the dodgy looking eBay one, and here we are. Put a battery in it this evening and it fired right up.
Seems to have only been made for 3 years between 2014 and 2017 and uses the Timex Intelligent Quartz system, with the compass function. It's a T2P287 and has a lovely colour pallet with the ivory face - actually has a beautifully supple strap and the matt finish case is very different from anything else I own. Think it should be a nice smart casual daily-type wearer. The Indiglo isn't very bright but I think that's probably down to the cheap pound shop battery I found in the back of a drawer. Will swap a decent one in shortly and hopefully it'll brighten up a bit.
I also like the fact that the bezel is all metal whereas the current Timex IQ Tide/Compass ones have less appealing small rubber inserts on their bezel. (Albeit I could still be tempted with one as they just look so damn complicated!!).
Anyway, here's a pic. Happy with it.

I'll probably go along too. Not interested in any of the modern watches, but it sounds like an opportunity to put faces to pseudonyms.

Just sold my Seiko Alpinist on eBay, happily I got £500 for it. Searching for other ones for sale after the fact though, it's dangerous buying a used one if you're a newbie.
I've never seen so many dodgy watches, seems like the Alpinist is a favourite for scammers. At least half of the listings are totally fake! They're selling though, so I guess many just don't know. I mean I didn't, but at least was able to tell the difference.
No real point to make here, other than to make anyone here looking for a used one aware. Most are quite obvious, have massive bezels, the wrong rotor or bad printing, but looking online it seems like some are much more sophisticated.

Part One….
I have had a similar watch to this for years.
Battery ran out years ago and I had tried and failed to get the back off to replace it.
Anyway…I dug it out last night because (see part 2), and thought F it, clamp, v small screwdriver and hammer and off it popped.
New Battery and away it goes.
It does Tide, Compass and Temperature, as well as time…not sure why I wanted all of that, and actually prefer the one above, but it does make a good beater and I do still like it after all of this time.
The reason I dug it out and also have been shifting some watches on is Part 2…

I have about 12 under £200 watches, of various types and don’t wear most of them.
Some I’d never sell - like the Timex, some others I’ve had for years, one of my Granddads etc
Anyway, I fell in love with something >4x thread budget.
I can easily afford it, but I seem to have a problem with justifying “frivolous” relatively expensive purchases like this to spend on myself. So with finest man maths, I went round the house and gathered things that I wasn’t using and decided to eBay them. That way it’s free innit!
So I’ve hit my target and when the eBay money lands in my account…the below will become mine (and is weirdly related to another recent post on this thread..):

That's the very one I'd been eyeing up in cream and brown. The black NESW bits on the bezel are rubber though if I'm not mistaken and that put me off. Still a class looking thing though. Feels more like a scientific instrument than a watch. Part One .

That Alpinist is lovely though. I'm nodding in appreciation here lol. And also thinking I've a couple of inflatable kayaks in the shed doing nothing, along with a few old bikes. Mmmmm

Cool. If I'm honest this version made me sell my SPB121 (Green prospex model) the SPB503 you've referenced is better in every single way, it's the one I'd want. I've owned it since new, got a bargain at £570 in 2024 but the blue one changed my perception of it.
That being said, I've gone for a Christopher Ward C65 Dune GMT. I love the Alpinist, and I'll come back to it, but it was too familiar territory so soon.
If you're buying new from a dealer, have no fear. It's a superb watch.
