What we think we know about water resistance ratings is almost all nonsense from marketing teams.
Not really when there's an ISO specification that has to be met.
I think you've missed my point. No one reads ISO specs. The internet is full of websites that tell you that 30m is splash proof only and you need 200m to go swimming, snorkeling, or diving. Then there are endless tedious debates about 'dynamic pressure' from people parroting something they heard once and thought it sounded cool.

In reality a 30m rated watch that meets the ISO standard is more than most people will ever need, but like the saying goes a lie will make it round the world before the truth has put its shoes on.

This chart from a watchmaker is helpful. I look forward to hearing how the Swatch holds up in the pool. You might get lucky. smile

And this from another

These are exactly the kind of nonsense charts etc I was talking about. They're meaningless.

I would suggest the most swum with watches in the world have 50m or less water resistance - f91ws, smart watches etc

When purchasing my Mercury in Vegas, they took a copy of my driving license and said that you are only able to purchase one watch from the entire collection.

Has anyone tried purchasing a second watch at a different store/country?
They took a copy of your driving licence? And you obliged for a £200 swatch watch!! Worlds gone mad. I don’t even give my email address to shops.
I’m 100% sure you will be fine to buy another one as soon you find one in stock somewhere.

Don't be confused by 'Asking' price and 'Actual' deal done price.

They made a point that you had to provide ID and pay with a card that had the same name on it.

Not sure if this is the norm for others that have purchased?

I'm in Munich for two days for work, but don't have time to visit Swatch to try my luck unfortunately.

Just the fact that the two charts contradict each other proves one of them must be wrong.

Possibly reasonable advice, from a certain perspective, but taken literally: clearly incorrect.

I have 2x 150m professional divers.

That’s just standard practice for using a credit card - or was when I used to visit Vegas though it hasn’t been for a while.

Chip and pin was not widespread so I assume it was just an anti fraud measure.

It was a pain as I have an old paper driving licence so I had to carry my passport around all the time…

You could do the same for Rolex Daytonas for the same reason ie lack of supply

Yep. I wouldn't take a 3bar watch in the pool - and most watchmakers' warranties would suggest I shouldn't. But what do I know?

That's entirely based on hearsay on the internet though. It's stated that all Swatch watches are water resistant to 3bar or more under testing in accordance with ISO22810 which specifically tests the watch under pressure for water resistance. They even have advice on washing your watch after use in the sea on the Swatch website, so it's certainly their expectation that you'd use it in the water.

A very long time ago I worked for Ravel shoes. Our advice to customers was to not wear the shoes in the rain. Sounds similar.

Apart from in this case some ‘expert’ customers are the ones saying not to wear them in the rain, whilst the shoe manufacturer themselves is saying it’s fine.

So after all the promises these watches won't be made available on the internet?

If I can't buy online then I'm out as they say. Shame but that £400 saved I guess.

They’re £207. Or were you planning on buying two?
