Tudor has a lot more brand cache than, say, Longines.

I'd get this person involved and see what they like, it might surprise you.
I suspect, as mentioned by others, Tag probably has the most brand cache in the under 25 year old age group?
And to me they seem to have a much better finish than Tudor watches.

I will get him involved, but I know he would appreciate my input.

That Spirit looks so nice.

Whichever watch you end up getting for him, you have a lucky nephew!

My lad chose a Breitling diver for his 18th.. ex display for a touch over £2k from Laings. I would look at WOS pre-owned too.

I’d say so, at least in this price bracket. The new Aquaracers are nice.

No characteristic of a watch recuses it if you don’t like it.

I did look at the BB 36 but to be honest I don't like the look of it.....and this might offend a few people but the few Tudor's I've handled haven't impressed me with their feel/build quality/finish

I have to agree with Deep here - every Tudor I’ve ever looked at/handled has completely underwhelmed me - and those ‘snowflake’ hands (that look nothing like snowflakes) just look wrong to my eyes. Tudor are much overrated IMO.

I’d also venture that Longines has just as much brand cache as Tudor to anyone who isn’t into watches.
Shows how different we all are, I tried on a Hydroconquest and Heritage Diver and was underwhelmed by both and ended up with a BB58 hehe

An 18 year old me would go for the TAG, the 46 year old me would go for an Oris Aquis in green 4157 code.

Just noticed that watches of Switzerland seems to stock some of muhle glashutte’s range. Might be worthwhile looking at these too. They are good quality for the price, just lacking in the brand cachet to an 18 year old that tag might have.

Is second hand an option?

If so I would look at:

Omega Speedmaster reduced
Omega Aqua Terra
Zenith EL Primero
Tudor Black Bay

I do like them but in the flesh but they are bloody big. Not sure something that big would suit him

Has to be new I'm afraid, which is a shame I know but it is what it is.

You can get 41.5mm and 39mm versions.

I gave my son £1500 to buy a watch for his 18th birthday and TAG was his first choice. He went for an Aquaracer topping up the balance himself.

Thanks.
Tag does seem like the obvious choice for this age group and budget.

I like the Longines Zulu Spirit but as it is for an 18 year old, then the Tag has the better brand name - all his mates(if he takes any store by that) will be well aware that Tag is a good watch whilst the same May not apply to Longines.

The first TAG looks the most TAG to me, so I'd say go with that one.

Anyone who thinks Tudor and Longines have more brand cache than TAG to an 18 year old and their peers seems a bit out of touch to me. Mühle, Seiko? Really?

It seems like half the posters on here have a TAG Aquaracer / Formula 1 their parents got them for their 18th and they still love it dearly, I don't see any reason to stray from the path.

My post about getting him a Seiko was in jest, I think the TAG is probably the best possible choice for an 18 year old lad.

to properly convert him into a middle aged PH forum moaner he will need to store the TAG a safe with tags never removed and buy a replica version to wear on the street smile

18, 18, hmm, all I wanted was a bag of pills, and to get laid a lot!

Oh, and a TAG F1
