I love a mechanical pencil and these sound great. I'm after an AD2000 Carbon Fibre keyring if anyone has one and an AD2000 Fountain pen in sparkle black too - then I'll have finished.
Digging out my cupboard on the weekend I found a gift I was given many years ago, it's a Mont Blanc Chopin Hommage fountain pen with box, paperwork, CD and slip saying I can get the pen customised at any Mont Blanc shop.
I never gave it much thought as I'm not a 'pen guy' but what's something like that worth?

The OH is going back to University (Oxford University, no less) to undertake a second Masters. As such, i would like to buy her a fountain pen. She has a few already but rarely uses them as she has very small handwriting and typically finds that fountain pens don't write finely enough to make her tiny letters clear. So i have two queries:
1. Any suggestions as to a fountain pen that may write finely enough; or
2. Suggestions as to any particularly good shops to go to where i might be able to find one myself. I'm in Birmingham City Centre, Cheltenham and London (around Liverpool Street Station) fairly regularly so any recommendations in those areas would be great.

There have been lots of Mont Blanc pens mentioned above. MB are wonderful pens, beautifully made and great to write with, but they're also a bit of a status symbol and therefore bought in a "Look at this, I'm rich" sort of way. Your GF may or may not want something that's as easily recognised.
My choice when this sort of question gets asked is Pelikan. They are absolutely brilliant pens adn beautifully made too. Top end M800 is c. £400 too, much less than the equivalent MB (the 149)
Also consider Graf von Faber Castell - the upper tier of the (very good) Faber Castell pens.
Depends on your budget too - for c. £50 you can get a Lamy Studio or something nice from Twsbi - translucent barrel means you can see the ink sloshing around inside which is cool. I have two TWSBI pens and they're among my favourites.

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated. To answer a couple of the questions, i was looking at something in the up-to-£200 range. She isn't one for fancy things and gets grumpy when i spend a lot of money on them for her (life could be worse ). Hence the emphasis on finding the correct fine-writing pen as she would appreciate how it writes far more than its actual value.
For various reasons it really needs to be a fountain pen rather than a rollerball or other options, much as as i love my own Cross rollerball.
