anyone got any ideas how to stop the second hand so i can set the time accuratly on it, or do i have to let the thing run flat to do that?

cheers
I shouldn't bother. They are not accurate enough to make that worthwhile. Mine gains a couple of minutes a week.

That's pretty poor! I have two Seiko 5's, neither of them deviate more than 10sec/day.

This new one is less accurate than my last, but I reckon 2 mins a week isn't too bad for a cheap auto.

I'm not saying it's bad for a cheap auto, I'm just saying my experience with Seiko 5's has been better.

I agree - my last one was a 5, and I bought the exact same one to replace it, but it's not as accurate.

You're lucky. They're not COSC-certified so +/- 30s a day is acceptable for a Seiko.

Here's the complete list of Gigandets if anyone is interested. I think they're doing a Sekonda? https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=as_li_ss_tl?srs=189...
Some of them look pretty decent for the money. Plenty to choose from anyway!
Yeah, I was thinking that. Not tried any, though. They're an old watch company, too.

Really? I have 3 automatic Seiko's in total, wouldn't be happy with that!

Just ordered a Snk809 on a bracelet for £49 - nicely under thread budget.

Looking forward to its arrival. Will wear it as is for a while and then let the nodding begin when I get bored smile

? If you want COSC guaranteed then buy a COSC watch for £1k+.

If you're getting +/-10s a day, consider yourself lucky. They're not designed to be that accurate.

You can't, it doesn't have the 'hacking' facility. You either need the next range up or just live with it as it is.

You can if you very lightly turn the crown backwards

I'm contemplating getting one of those. either that or the silver one. for the same reason as you, that retro chic. would pair well with a rolled up denim shirt and black jeans. the only time i'd ever really look at it is if I'm not at work (or sat at my desk). beats taking your phone out your pocket to check the time.
