Please reassure me that that jumper doesn’t have a roll neck to match the cuff pictured. Just the thought is making me feel quite anxious...

No idea what a roll neck is, but that's not a jumper, that's just my thick hoodie as it's cold out.

As part of setting up my setting up my used watch sales company I've had to practice my photography a lot and try and improve. I think I'm starting to get their but its been a fairly steep learning curve. Some examples below, let me know what you think.

I took these with just a phone and the light from my PC monitor. Amazing what's possible with phones these days.

Got bored today... Had a £12 AliExpress lightbox and dug out my canon S95 point and shoot. Add 10mins of Photoshop and ended up with this... Really tempted to get a 105mm macro for the D700.

I took these a couple of years ago, but thought they might be of some interest regarding the use of different apertures affecting depth of focus, and also shutter speeds.

At the time (no pun intended), I didn't know about having the hands at roughly 10 past 10, so apologies for the hand placements.

All were taken with the camera on a tripod, which is essential for longer shutter speeds, but also generally makes it easier placing lights/flashes etc..

Camera was a Canon 5Dmk3 with 100mm macro lens, but as has been said earlier, a less expensive DSLR with a reasonable macro lens, or extension tubes would be equally suitable.

Clicking on the photos will take you to the FlickR site, with further clicks enabling you to zoom in closer.

The images were taken in RAW format, but with very little processing in Photoshop - just slight exposure and sharpening adjustments (no stacked images etc..)

These initial 2 were taken with 2 x off camera flashes with home made diffusers (silver foil fast food containers with thin plastic packaging taped over the front). The flash means a short exposure, so the second hand is frozen.

1. Wide aperture (f3.2) gives shallow depth of focus:

2. Same shot, but with a much smaller aperture (f20) gives deeper depth of focus:

3. No flash - just using a desk lamp. Reasonably fast shutter speed (1/80th second) still freezes the second hand:

4. No flash, but with much longer shutter speed (3.2 seconds) - second hand blurred - notice the blur is about 3 seconds long:

5. One to show the luminous face (no other light used):

6. Final one on the wrist. Flash used to freeze any movement, and the tripod helps so you're not trying to hold the camera with one hand and get the watch lined up with the other:
