Hi everyone,

Not sure if this the most appropriate place for this, but I couldn't see an introductions thread anywhere. First post on the forum and just wanted to gauge if there were any MK/Newport Pagnell residents on here?

I'm looking to start my first project car soon, likely a Mazda MX5 (NA or NB) and it would be great if there were other people local to me who's no doubt superior car knowledge I could tap into.

Hope to speak to plenty of you in the future!

Rich

P.S. if this shouldn't be in here then let me know and I'll move/delete as appropriate.

Not from MK now (though did live in Shenley for a few years) but not far up the road in St Neots, Cambs.
More interested in the Mazda project. I have a little 93 1.6 Eunos that I'm slowly doing up so would be good to bash ideas around when all this is over should you want to?
Though I am in no way any sort of mechanic smile

I'm not in MK, but only down the road towards Leighton Buzzard.

What are you planning for your project?

I am almost set on an MX-5. I had thought long and hard about an MR2 but the mid-engined set up seemed a bit complex for me as my first project car. I'll be using this car to learn as I go along. I've loved cars ever since I was a child but I've never really had the opportunity to work on them. Now I can afford to have a project car (and more importantly have somewhere to put it!), so hopefully this will be the first of many!

Should I settle on an MX-5 my mods will likey be:

(Slightly) shorter springs - I probably won't opt for coilovers.
Upgraded brakes, wheels and tyres,
Supercharger - this is the optimistic mod!
Sports exhaust
Depending on the quality of the car I buy probably a few aesthetic mods (seat refurb, new steering wheel etc.)
If it gets to a point where I want to track it then possible a roll cage too, but that's in the future.

I've only lived in MK for a few years after moving here for my training. I have plenty of friends who like cars, but none who are what I'd call 'car guys'. Although my other half's father does drag race but I'm not hugely into drag racing and american car culture, I do very much enjoy going to watch him at Santa Pod though!

I am probably even less of a mechanic than you are but it would be great to share ideas! My uncle used to have a Eunos that he absolutely adored, it was a great laugh seeing him drive it as he was 6' 6" and he had to sit with his legs spread apart just to move the steering wheel!

Do you have an existing thread on your project?

I’m in Milton Keynes, I’m an engine builder (although not MX5s) so a smattering of automotive knowledge, have built a couple of kit cars from scratch in the past.

Well in an ideal world I really wanted a Caterham 7, having driven one a little while ago I couldn't remember having more fun in a car. However, with lots of work I currently want to do on the house it's probably not going to happen for a couple of years.

I suspect you are a little more familiar with those looking at your website!

Interesting...

I'll have to see if I can get in touch with him/her. Is there an associated thread?

No, but I'm sure if you drop Chris an email on here he'd be happy to chat.

Absolutely! As long as there isn't a requirement to have an interesting car in order to show up! I don't think my Tiguan qualifies, as much as I love it...
