Hare & Hounds in Old Warden has a good menu and good food.
More of a resturant that sells beer than a pub that sells food sort of thing, but a very nice setting and worth a blat there to sit outside on a sunny day
Agree 100% its just outside shefford and has got a bar area, food is great and the landlord is a car and bike nut! Get some nice cars in there and some half decent roads near it too really nice in the summer with a big carpark and massive beer garden. Food is also top draw.More of a resturant that sells beer than a pub that sells food sort of thing, but a very nice setting and worth a blat there to sit outside on a sunny day
We were there last night and I thought the food was not up to it's usual high standard.

Prior to that the last time we went was November ish and it was fantastic then! Seems to be a total change of staff since then and it's letting itself go downhill which is a real shame!

That was the last time I shall be going there!
I have been told The Cock in Broom does good food. I shall try that next time...Failing that, it will be the well tried and tested White Horse in Southill, which incidently, is a lot cheaper than the Black Horse
Meanwhile, Back over the border in Cambs...
Indian - Shilpa at the North end of Papworth is a proper Indian restaurant, not a curry house. Good food, reasonable prices, friendly staff... Best Indian I've ever been to on a regular basis.
Pub - The Willow Tree in Bourn. Big portions of lovely classic food.
..and then back in Herts...
Pub - The Kings Arms in Tring. My local for 20-odd years before I ventured out in the wilds of Cambidgshire. Free House with excellent ales, Wadworths direct from the brewery in Devizes, and the unofficial brewery tap of Tring Brewery. Food with an ethnic flavour or just dive into a hot beef or hot sausage sandwich - bliss!!! Beer festival on August Bank Holiday weekend normally. Parking can be interesting as it's a back street pub, but well worth the trouble to go and try it out!

A Cambs pub for the Beer Drinkers here!,
http://www.pignfalcon.co.uk/
upwards of a minimum of 8 Real Ales are available at all times with Local/East Anglian beers a speciality of all strengths and styles (stronger beers usually available over the weekends) an excellent place to try beers from Oakham, Potbelly, Newby Wyke, Milton and others, all in excellent condition and served the proper way!
4 or 5 Real Ciders are usually available to keep that party happy too
UPDATE - Winner of Hunts CAMRA Most Improved Pub award '10, very well deserved!

Eaten at the Black Horse, White Horse and Hare and Hounds as I'm local to all.
I've had amazing food there, but on occasion especially at the White Horse some real tosh.
However after a really good lunch at the Crown in Northill I thought I'd take my mother there for a treat.
What a huge waste of time and money.
Not a hard order, two rib eyes, one hake and rack of lamb.
After an hour and a hole bottle of Rioja later the food arrived.
One sirloin, over done and tasteless, my rib eye (actually not bad), hake totally dried out and tasteless and the rack of lamb also overdone and dry.
After some words with the lack lustre staff they begrudgingly offered the wine for free, still ended up paying for two rib eyes though!
I was so disappointed, the place looked lovely but it was pants.
The evening was not totally ruined however, we popped into Biggleswade and finished off with drinks and Banoffee pie in the Old Maltings (actually worth a visit).
Any others with experience of the Crown?

I agree it is a lovely pub though for a meal I still prefer the Black Horse in Ireland.
Have you been to the Black Horse since it's refurb? We were there last night and I thought the food was not up to it's usual high standard.

Another good one is The Anchor Inn at Great Barford. Yummy simple food and great atmosphere.

Agree about The Fox in Willian, lovely food.
Honourable mention for the Sword Inn Hand in Westmill near Buntingford.

The Radcliffe Arms in Hitchin is nice.
Eaten there a few times over the last few months. Excellent drinks selection along with very good chefs. Pricing was very reasonable too.
The menu is brilliant as the owner has personally commented on each drink and given his (often comedic) view on them.
