She’s been refused entry for the Hamble classics. I’m gutted! irked

She doesn't meet their "Criteria of Classic Style" "Being of a hard chine design and also with an unconventional deck edge design"
We've been told we may want to enter the RAFYC Battle of Britain Regatta, "I'm sure the Club would welcome your entry" wtf!

Thank you Sir! And thank you for the tip on the starter. I won’t ask you how you found out about that......
I’m working my notice at the moment, so I will be a free Man at the end of September, and plan to get over to Blighty for a bit of bashing around the Solent smile

without reading back through the thread, Svip cant be much younger that '71 ??

And surely she meets "Nordic Modern Classic" design?

Plenty of Pre '71 Maxi 77's with hard chines and very similar cabin top designs knocking about ...

She’s 1968. I think they’re being a bit mean.
So she’s glass-fiber, and they never made them in wood.
She’s a classic in my eyes...

She is over 40 years old, she is definitely a classic in most anyone’s eyes I would have thought ..... I can think of a lot of other similar age boats that to my eyes are very much “classic” that would fall foul of their regs .....

I get that to the letter of the law if they didn't ever make a wooden one she's not technically eligible but REALLY? An interesting boat with undoubtedly unequivocally classic lines and features, fully restored? But you could turn up in a plastic Folkboat and that's OK?

I'd be pushing back hard on that, seems ridiculous.

That sounds like a typical Yacht club committee decision. In other words, stupid.

Of course she meets the definition of a classic, as a 1968 boat, then by simple definition she is a "classic."

Not only that, she's a classic in fabulous condition.

Happy to send an e-mail in to them in support. We usually have a few boats go down from here for the classic and I spend much of my spare time racing old furniture around the cans, so this annoys me.

A long time ago, I kept my Huntsman 28 at HYS Port Hamble, one day, I arrived at the boat to find someone sat on my foredeck with a rope on my bow bollard tied to the jib of a crane, with a day boat dangling in the wind. I wasn’t best pleased, the biggest risk was that the plonker left it tied to my bollard as the tide dropped and would have at the least ripped the bollard off, of worse. The Plonker is the same plonker that now runs the Hamble Classics.

Once a plonker always a plonker.

That would be "Jonty" then...

Thank you all for the kind words. I won't push it, their loss as far as I'm concerned.
I'm a bit upset for my Pal, who was all excited about it. He's been going through some hard stuff lately, and he was getting his Mojo back.
I also thought the remark about the RAFYC accepting us was a bit condescending.
I'll get over in October, and we'll have a good bash around. I hope I bump into this Jonty fellow, so I can look him in the eye, and tell straight out to his face, that I think he's a pompous prick. At least we're always made welcome at RAFYC, and it's a decent pint. Actually that's where she's berthed. smile

I used to like popping into the Victory for a swift few, but my Mate's moved out of the village now, and back to Netley, so it's the Consort now.

Was a rotten shame about Budgie and Stuart in the WH.

Who is that then?

I was 25 years in Netley and 21 years in Hamble, met my wife in the Prince and we used to run it when the managers were away.

Looks incredible. A bargain for someone.
