In these pc, caring-sharing, everyone's a winner times, Dreadnought, Warspite, Repulse, Invincible etc are probably seen as a bit punchy.

I always find it slightly odd that the RN have never had an HMS Churchill. We could, in fact have a 'conspicuously whooped the Queen's enemies' class;

HMS Churchill
HMS Montgomery
HMS Thatcher
HMS Drake
HMS Wellington
HMS Nelson
Ahem.

Exactly so. If anyone took me seriously, he's had a sense of humour bypass. Sadly, many of those afflicted dwell here.

You see....
laugh

You missed the point spectacularly there.

If you want people to think you're being funny, try being funny.
You missed the point spectacularly there. But never mind.

PS....Am I supposed to be bothered that I don't excite your humour buds?

Ahem.

Curiously the americans do have a ship USS Winston S Churchill. An Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. Maybe we should reciprocate with a Trump?

It's been announced that the first of the new SSBNs replacing the Vanguards will be HMS Dreadnought.

As for the other two, I'd go for either Warspite and Churchill or Conqueror if they don't go for all 'D' names, or Defiance and Devastation if they do.

If the first one of the class is to be called Dreadnought then the subsequent names of the ones in the same class will begin with the letter "D"

Unless they are going back to the start of the nuclear naming circle, then the next two will be Valiant and Warspite.

First of class HMS Swiftsure was the first propulsor/pump jet, the Churchill was a Valiant class boat with a conventional Simitar blade propellor.

If they were going to use Valiant it woukd have been used on one of the Vanguard class boats.

The classes tend to follow alphabetical order, with each boat in the class starting with the same letter

Swiftsure class
Trafalgar class
Upholder class
Vanguard class
Astute class
Dreadnought class

Back in the 80s, I spent some time on Upholder, Unseen, Unicorn and Ursula when they were being fitted out at Barrow and Birkenhead. They were mothballed and then sold to the Canadian Navy.

Not always, the Valiant class that followed Dreadnought was Warspite and Valiant.

With rumours of the carrier coming in to port during victorious festival I’m hoping to see iron maiden on the flight deck playing a set as it sails past the festival site.

Wishful thinking?

Are we able to confirm this anywhere, not the Iron Maiden bit, obviously?
