F35 has already conducted live operations I’m sure like typhoon though there will be certain capabilities yet to be signed off and will come under separate tranches. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk...

Again the carrier will have certain capabilities signed off already I’d have thought.

The plan is Initial Operating Capability (can deploy and do stuff) by the end of 2020, with it's first operational employment planned in 2021.

They've already declared IOC(Land) for the F35's, meaning there are a number that are a fully operational and able to fly from land bases.

May have already been answered. Now there are aircraft on, does the escort increase or is it the same no matter?

What's the value of the whole package for neswpaper headlines purposes in aftermath of a conflict?

?

I am curious, not being a nautical cove, as to how these are protected with escorts. Does it change due to requirements or where the aircraft carrier goes, a set minimum goes no matter what.

Not forgetting the value of the Captain's house and his wife's age smile

I believe that the Carrier Strike Group will comprise of HMS Queen Elizabeth, 2 type 45 air defence destroyers, 2 type 23 ASW frigates and 1 Asute class attack submarine with a tanker in attendance when needed. Will this change depending on circumstance? Possibly but I doubt the Navy want the carrier protected by anything less

Thanks.

I was reminded of a comment by a colleague that woke up one day on hols in Thailand or somewhere and the US fleet was in and the accompanying ships just filled the view that he could see from the hotel.

I sort of assumed Queen Elizabeth will have escorts at all times now.

It changes depending on the threat/role/deployment.

Basically, it will require the whole of the Royal Navy to act as escort.

I served on Invincible for 6 years and Illustrious for 2 and we often operated without an escort.

I served on Ark Royal, and we did the same regularly. We varied from nothing, to whole host of surface sub-surface, and air support.

Weathers looking dry but I’ve heard the wind may be close to limits for entry, I’m a few minutes from the front so if I’m not busy I’ll pop along.

I didn’t know the second had been launched. The media had been nonexistent! Talk about living in the shadow of the mother. Just like their name sakes!
