Are there two berths there that can take a carrier ?

As you say POW is in QE’s berth ?

( I’m a long way from P/mouth )
Yes.

And yes.
Ta

Wasn’t sure if they’d have to be one in one out

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I read yesterday that PoW actually weighs several thousand tonnes more than QE. Anyone know why this might be?

They both fit (fingers crossed!) but one jetty is ‘superior’ for getting maintenance done and the other more of a ‘parking space’!

Looking forward to the ugly sister arriving!

What ‘improvements’ have been made to PoW following the learning from QE?

Catapults and arrestor wires? Or was that too embarrassing to admit biggrin

A better build strategy is the biggest plus.

Most other things are a direct read across from what has already been done to QNLZ.

In the future, one will lead and the other follow. Then vice versus.

FYI, both ships will be in Pompey together in early December. Got a team tour of QNLZ booked for the 10th December which I'm looking forward to, haven't been on her since Christmas 2017.

Anyone know why two tugs have had a line each to it today, all day, and are both still there idling and bobbing away. Are they not confident in the knot work, and fear it’ll float away?

Doesn't sound like that idea will take off.

Just had a peek through the camera on my house, it’s moved back about the length of the ship. I guess they’re trying out both carrier berths, or some other top secret Navy st.

An issue with the High Voltage boom needed tugs to keep the Ship away from the berth.

Just moved back so they can repair the issue.

Just twist the ends of the wire together and wrap with tape, job jobbed. wink

Cool video - some interesting shots of the QE. Like the little port they've set up at the back.

I'm gobsmacked the ship has (it appears) so much surface rust/staining already. Fair enough around the anchor but surprised there's so much elsewhere

A combination of vast real estate, lean manning, weather, low(er) grade steel and the length of time that QE has been around.

They will need lots of help alongside.

I didn't think it looked too bad!

It's been around a while, and on that deployment spent quite a bit of time tooling around the Atlantic. It's inevitable - have a watch of series 1 of Britain's Biggest Warship if it's still on iPlayer, when they meet up with a US carrier coming off deployment - the US carrier is very rust streaked.

Most of the rust streaks are where there are moving parts e.g. aircraft lifts and gangways where bare metal is exposed
