I always assumed they'd start near the stern for the maximum takeoff run, but that's presumably straight off the lift and turn to the bow. Is that standard launch or just because he's presumably flying pretty light?

This bothers me....

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/dec/16/do...

After being so happy that Labour wouldn't be selling them to get a few quid for schools/hospitals/"the poor"/gender studies I feel a bit pissed off that on the first working day after the election result this is the first thing off the presses.

Normal take off run is from the 350ft mark, it appears that today it did the same thing (350ft), very impressive that it can do this with no wind over the deck.

Being an aircraft that is designed to take off vertically from a stationary position this does not surprise me smile

Too often MoD procurement has been a shambles so it seems reasonable to have a review, not exactly a vote winner nor a priority though.

Hmm shocking to know that the unelected nut-case Dominic “Damien” Cummings has seemingly put himself in charge of our Government’s Defence procurement. Putin must be delighted.

Agreed MoD procurement does need a review.

Not exactly a new topic though

2015 NAO report into reforming defence acquisition

https://www.nao.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/...

followed by a 4 year transformation programme at Defence Equipment & Support.

What's Dominic Cummings going to say that the NAO report and transformation report didn't?

I am surprised that people on here always fail to recognise that defence spending always suffers under conservative governments, not all of us have forgotten john knott

I guess it depends what direction with the wind and all that. Where I am in southsea is 2 miles and didn’t hear a thing and was listening out. My brother in law had it fly directly overhead and reported the house shaking.

There were Strategic Defence and Security Reviews in 2010 and 2015 so presumably we're due one anyway.

He'll have the political clout to actually do something unlike the NAO.

It was pretty flippin' loud in Portchester. Made me jump (didn't know it was happening)!

And loud in Port Solent too. The noise made me go and have a quick look out of the window while on the phone although I didn’t see the plane.

Also had bloody noisy helicopters most of the morning in and out at Hornsea Island.
