I have accumulated a few thousand digital images of large (mostly 70 feet long over all) and old (pre Second World War) classic steam and motor yachts along with their histories. If anyone has an interest in this topic, I'd love to share information and pictures. I also have several issues of "Lloyd's Register of Yachts" and "Lloyd's Register of American Yachts" from which I can share specific yacht data.

I'm very interested in expanding and improving the collection to include more British and European yachts. I also have many artist depictions of classic yachts. Another aspect of my interest is in the wartime use of yachts as naval vessels of which I have many pictures as well.

If you have an old vessel in mind and would like to see a picture or information posted, just let me know. I may well have just what you are looking for.

I'll post a few pictures to give everyone a taste of what interests me.

This is one I used to work on. It's a bit younger than those your looking at.

Cardigrae VI built by Camper Nics.

Ex-girlfriend worked on this one at the same time. Kalizma.

Cardigrae VI apparently sank in harbour in Italy in 2006

If ever funds permitted I'd LOVE something like this as a live aboard yacht. Sadly, short of winning the Lotto, it'll never happen. Purchase price and maintenance would be crippling.

It would make a great book, but I suppose you'd run straight into copyright problems.

Did you work on the Kalizima when owned by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor? She was originally the Minona, built in 1906.

No, it was back in the early '90s when we were on the classics. Kalizma has now been ruined, a very poor treatment for a grand old lady.

I knew a yacht in Antigua for many years called 'Tiger' (built as Waverly II in the 1927 by Munroe of Glasgow). She had an intresting history.

I agree about Kalizima. Why modernize a classic?
Tiger/Waverly II is a new one for me. I'd love to see a current picture. The article implies she's still around and restored.

Steve, the owner, and Hans, the 2 guys that ran Tiger, sold her to someone in St.Kitts who removed the original engines and put new ones in. Other than that. I lost touch with her story.

Hans is on facebook if you want to contact him.

Yes, that is the one. A sad tale.

You should watch this about the USS Williamsburg, one of the most important vessels in the US maritime history. I have seen her in this condition down in Italy and I'm astounded that with the money being spent out of the USA on large yachts that someone hasn't put this right.

A sad story indeed. There's always hope. Here she is in original glory as Hugh Chisholm's Aras II.
