It sure is.
Our russian hydrofoil, the Barracuda also offer trips around Largs bay. She has just had a respray so she is blood orange this summer. I've added a short video link a customer has made for us.

The Good Old Days - not only no lifejackets but the boat was driven by a dog!

We’ve been on Superstar quite a few times, we take our family and friends for the ride, even those that think they will hate it come back with a smile, it’s a lovely boat and during the Summer we can hear it thundering along if we are in the garden and sometimes spot it.

I dread to think how this Summer will effect it’s fortunes frown

This boat lying derelict on the shore just west of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, been meaning to get to take pics since this thread was started, had to orchestrate a family day out to get there!

Ford straight six, appears to be cold moulded timber skinned in GRP.

Looks like the area is being cleared, so I guess may not be around for much longer.

is there any update on this ....... curious as to whether its still about?

Yes. Still there. She is about 1 mile from the Yarmouth ferry port on Isle of Wight.

Hull is very poorly. Extensive water ingress into the timber topsides that have been glassed over. Very poorly boat.

I should add that I have done 3 wooden boat rebuilds and I would say she is too far gone.

Hello, new to forum. I’ve recently bought a Gerald Pearn ‘Looe Lady’ speed boat named 007 from Plymouth. I’ve done some research and discovered that she was previously called Apollo from Torbay. I have been informed that she may also be the same Apollo from Padstow from the early 1970’s.
Would really appreciate any info/photos that could confirm this.
Thank you

Yes, I'm told Charlie always ensures passengers that even though there is more than required safety equipment on board there has never been any need for it, even after 100 years - but what do I know, I'm just a skivvy.

New on here and just watching some Cornish TV. Made me Google some Padstow boats and ended up here. I had some great stays at the North Quay Hotel in Padstow between 1968 and 1973. John England was a big name in Padstow. At that time there were 3 classic Ford engined speed boats running out of Padstow. I believe 2 were owned by John England and 1 by a rival business. (I might be wrong). I know 2 were named Apollo and 007. I am struggling to remember the 3rd.(possibly a bird in the name?) John England at that time, I believe, also operated a displacement pleasure boat called the Buccaneer. It was a sort of smart work boat hull with a forward wheel house. The opposition operated a converted lifeboat named Coverac. The opposition, around 1969, commissioned a new boat called Queen of Cornwall. This was like an enlarged version of John England's Buccaneer. The following year I was excited to see a brand new steel boat had appeared commissioned by JE. It was called the Tristar and seemed like a small ship, powered by twin Ford 6cyl turbo diesels. The opposition had to update their boat by adding a flying bridge and possibly some under cover accommodation. JE also ran the Padstow to Rock ferry and later added the Jubilee Queen to his fleet.
I never had a trip on the speed boats (we were lucky to do our own boating) but remember the growl of the Fords as they opened up when the cleared the speed restrictions. I also remember seeing them regularly off Polzeath beach, which was quite exposed. That part of the trip into the Camel estuary was weather dependent. Thanks for jogging my memory Piston Heads. (I may not have got all the facts correct BTW).

hi I owned 007
bought her for £15000 from Torbay. she was in a bit of a state but renovated her to commercial use again renamed her 007. She is Apollo 2
never went to Padstow but served the south coast for many years Apollo 1 was in Padstow but was sold and went to Isle of Silly. She now is in Dartmouth for sale the owner wants vast sums of money above her true worth. The original 007 from Padstow went to the south coast and had sunk on her moorings.
If you want pictures of her from start to finish please mail me. I have a picture of her outside your house from a friend we dont live very far away. Simon.
