I’ve never looked at this thread past the title, but thought I heard a helicopter tonight & had a look (didn’t find it) noticed the NASA 747 & just finished googling it!

Just a guess from your description, a Russian AN-12, they are so noisy even at 20,000ft

Hunter has been having fun over the north east again, could hear it but clouds prevented a view.

Three military aircraft doing circuits in the North sea, one is a C17 so not refueling and another is a herc off Scotland, the last one is French so possibly working with our aircrafts that require a probe for refueling.

That's a superb find, I hadn't realised it left the US bar brief ventures north/south.

3 USAF C130s doing the conga out of Ramstein. The UK based USAF C130s often follow in close formation pairs over here too. In fact there were two overhead just last night. Like motorway tailgaters.

Just to add, 57-1419 first flew on 25th May 1958 & was in service in June 58, currently with the Arizona ANG, so not likely to be flying over you.
Just spotted KC135 57-1454 out and about over USA. That one first flew 12 August 1958. Bonus B52 on screen also.

It’s been in Europe for a few weeks based in Cologne, it’s been over the U.K. quite a few times flying it’s missions. Great to see it, fascinating bit of kit.

I live relatively close to Luton Airport, and every so often I'll say to my lad "Hear that? That's an AN12 out of Birmingham, and it's still loud even over us". He then calls me sad, which of course I am. I then check on ADSB, and go "back of the net" when I'm right. At this stage I get the "just be quiet" look.
AN12s are so noisy / distinct.
