Brave challenger has moved

So driving past portchester earlier today to go test drive an Abarth and as I passed the waterfront near portsolent I noticed brave challenger with a tug alongside moving into position at high tide (previously she was moored in the Itchen).

On the way home she was out the water at Drystack so I assume she's about to get a refit perhaps?

Interesting, I'm on leave for a fortnight otherwise I'd have noticed.

I did ask a chum that runs a firm that could do this and he shuddered at the thought, complex construction and machinery. I reckon it needs a £20M budget to do that properly.

Also note, the Britannia replica has moved from Solent Refit to Ocean Quay.

Is Britannia still a hull or has more work been carried out?

I surveyed her in about 1999. Also out of the water at Portchester.
Unfortunately didn't get to go on a sea trial but the engineer told me 1000 gallons per hour at full chat!

I remember seeing this yacht a few times moored in the Itchen when working at the Sealine sea school nearby, couldn't remember it's name and here it is on PH!

His brother as I understand, both having an interest in aviation.
I'm glad BC is getting some attention at last, even if the extent of what may occur is not yet known, it would be good to know that the gas turbines removed from the SRN4's at Lee on Solent may see some action after all?

When I looked at her in the late 90s there were IIRC 12 spare engines. Some time expired units from the hovercraft - no longer "airworthy" and some from some Scandinavian versions of the boat. There were 2 or 3 Nasty class boats dismantled for spares on the Itchen in the early 90s when Brave Challenger was rebuilt.

I do fear that the mahogany planking on aluminium frames won't have survived well if the interior maintainance is a good as the exterior appears..
