Whenever I see a steam loco, the hairs stand up on my neck. They are just awesome! If I ever win a fortune on the lottery, I'm going to buy one. A big one!!

It's a shame that the all of the "iconic" trains aren't actually retired like they should be.

The article mentions a deltic was used to position the flying Scotsman.

The Deltic was on the back of the Flying Scotsman, not sure if it remained there on the run in to York.

On a TV piece to camera at York, the Deltic was in the background.

What is allegedly 'iconic' about the thing next to Scotsman?

That's the train that will replace both the 125 and the 225.

Probably did. IIRC that Network Rail will not let it loose without it's helper...

Sensible move – Deltics not the most reliable of locomotives.

If its like anything else thats replaced the 125,it'll be uncomfy, unreliable and gone long before the 125.

Speaking as a WCML passenger, I've never had an issue with the comfort or reliability of the Pendolinos

Whilst they look similar, Pendalino is an Alstom train, the new ones on the ECML are Hitachi type 800s - assembled up in Newton Aycliffe, Co. Durham.

Have been in the factory a few times (they are a client of mine) - the new train is a huge improvement on the current rolling stock - and they should be a whole lot more efficient and reliable.

You cad! The EE Deltic - ugly beauty personified! And there is just a hint of the Lightning in there!
