I'm thinking of getting into a Ftype R and have driven the AWD version which was wonderful. My question is whether anyone has driven both AWD and 2WD or has any information on the differences when driving, the 2wd are around £7K lower cost all things considered (low 50's) and I wondered if they were better value therefore for the everyday driver?, thanks

I'm just bumping this as I'm considering an ftype when my GTR goes back and would really like to know what people think of the 4wd v the 2wd.

Cheers

I recently tested an F-Type R AWD and it is indeed powerful, but reassuring. Not driven the 2WD, but judging from my XKR, these powerful Jags spin their rears so easily and after testing an XKR-S with the 550PS, I would only consider an AWD 'R.

I've driven both (and was popping on here to search for opinions on the SVR as I've one coming for a week tomorrow) so might be able to offer an opinion.

It obviously behaves itself more with AWD but with modern safety systems and stability programming, you're never really in any trouble with the RWD, you just can't get the power down in anything other than perfect conditions or without a bit of work.

The RWD is more of a challenge certainly, and there are times when that's a good thing. I suppose it depends how you're planning on running it (daily?) and what the price difference is.

Something you might find helpful though: I've driven 3-4 different GTRs too (including a Nismo) and would say a GTR feels more RWD biased than the AWD F-Type R.

Not sure about the F-Type, but the XKR in normal traction control mode can give you pretty big brown trouser moments.

The RWD F-Type in V8 form is reasonable to handle. It can break traction easily but that's part of the fun. Just be sensible.

I ran a V8 Cebera with 400BHP many years ago and that could be scary/fun. The F-Type is a pussy cat in comparison.

Ah yes I've had a couple of Cerberas, maybe I should go RWD and relive the fun.

I've had 2 Cerb's too! The RWD F-Type is definitely the nearest to a Cerb but much more modern, and loads of pops and bangs on tap. It's a hoot. I'm on my second V8S because I missed the first one so much after selling smile
