The Rouen traffic thread
Discussion
Just what is it with that poxy town! First it was the flambe bridge then on possibly the busiest weekend of the year returning home they merge traffic into 1 bleeding lane through the Tunnel!
It seems whatever the sat navs tell you when you start your journey, and you leave additional time, it never seems to be enough!
I turned off the A13 then used the E46 industrial road then picked up the N28! Absolute Nightmare!
Lost over an hour in the Que and had to make up time with a non flexi channel crossing.
I had had a good weekend up to that point!

Aston sat nav not good and after 2 mins of twiddling often can't find exact location and then its start again.
It did however do a left off the main road and then a right down a pretty quiet 5 mile long residential street with a few traffic lights etc - 2 right turns and over a bridge and joined dual carriageway just as it turned towards tunnel and all the lorries were doing a slow uphill right hand turn in the one right lane yesterday lunchtime.

Our sat nav recalculated as we came into Rouen, last minute decision to follow the new route and we literally didn't stop rolling right through and out the other side - not for lights, roundabouts, anything. We some how missed the tunnel and sailed through. Easiest route through/round Rouen ever!

This.
It only adds 10mins if Rouen is clear, but then Rouen is never clear.
Exactly. It only adds 10mins if Rouen is clear, but then Rouen is never clear.
Our convoy left together at 9 and we have one who, for some strange reason, insists on going via Rouen come hell or high water. We stopped at the supermarket at Yvetot for about half an hour to get some lunch then again at Cite Europe to stock up on vin and fois gras and were only 20 mins behind him arriving at the tunnel in the end. Much prettier route as well.

To change one lamp...similar on A13 the other side just to cut grass one man one tractor 3 miles of cones,IMO they do it on purpose. It seems whatever the sat navs tell you when you start your journey, and you leave additional time, it never seems to be enough!

I do not understand why everyone goes though Rouen....
For the many people who overtook, the Range Rover with the Caravan, only to find it back in front after Rouen, this is how we do it....

Travelling this way involves a total of two roundabouts - where you rarely come to a stop. I reckon it's at least 30 minutes quicker...

We must have been very lucky as we sailed straight through Rouen on Monday afternoon, must have been around 2-3 o'clock. We were due on the 19.55 ferry from Calais and were given 18.50, which was a bonus as P&O sent me a text to say that our original ferry had been delayed by 45 minutes !
One of the best trips down and back for me, most certainly better than the Calais chaos last year.
