So rumours are flying around that the Nimitz class carrier will arrive Saturday 22nd until 29th July.

Luckily I’m out sailing Sunday (although out with North to test the new sails so may not be able to head that way if conditions don’t allow)

I saw the USS Abraham Lincoln up close on a boat trip around San Diego harbour some years ago, impressive sight.

In fact the whole harbour was full of some serious hardware including the USS Alabama nuclear sub

(Just started writing this out before spotting this thread - so I've just c+p'd it all over into here)

The aircraft carrier USS George HW Bush is due to pay a visit to the south coast next week. The Nimitz class ship arrives in Stokes Bay, Gosport, on Thursday 27th and will stay for a few days before continuing her deployment around Europe and the Middle East. She's a big old girl and would dwarf HMS QE should the two ever share the same piece of water.

Its sister ship, USS Theodore Roosevelt popped in to the Portsmouth area back in 2015.

Seems your date is more accurate. Gosport ferry is running trips. http://www.gosportferry.co.uk/summer-cruises/uss-g...

Remind me to charge up the battery on my camera. thumbup

Is it wrong that find amusement in the name of the cruise as it sounds like something I did when I was a teenager?

I have pics of the fleets in SD after flying over the harbour a few years back. Brilliant to see them all docked.

I see you’re going for a Bush Cruise wink

Does anyone know what time she (or I guess it’s a he) rocks up on Thursday? I’m also assuming it will have to come in via the nab anchorage?

Cool. What are all those things on the deck though? Doesn't look like one of our carriers...

Wow ,that's quite a size.

How many double decker busses or football stadiums is it ?

Those are the correct measures for such a thing.

Corrr, now that's a vessel!

Always wanted to do a tour of one, just the scope and engineering for them I find amazing.

Different class, but gives a sense of how HMSQnlz will stack up against something similar to George Bush:

Well I've had a lovely morning bobbing about on the water. The poor old Gosport Ferry was a bit out of its comfort zone as it headbutted its way through a mildly lumpy Solent, but it was a good little trip out. Took about 30 minutes each way, then a handful of laps of USS George HW Bush for photos while a couple of Police launches made sure of the exclusion zone and some black RIBs with moody looking occupants buzzed about ready to intercept any naughtiness.

I've uploaded one or two snaps below in no particular order:

I read this post 24hrs ago and have visited this thread twice since, I, just 2mins ago, got this!

I'd looked all around the deck (and aircraft) for whatever it was you were referring to, confused.

Deary me. hehe

The Shard would, if laid on its side, fit on the flight deck

..and look pretty cool
