If she went through Braunston I'd reckon she'd be heading the wrong way. I would have thought she'd turned right at Norton Junction and headed up the Leicester Line.
Yes, you're right she passed that junction a while back is is on the soar navigation (after passing braunston in Leicester just to confuse me). She actually crossed the finish line last night but plans on an extra few miles today to Trent lock.Edited by mcdjl on Saturday 25th June 08:38
It's not a 'gold river licence' as such - there's a 'gold licence' which covers all canals and rivers so once bought - you don't have to worry about it. Obviously for people you are using their boat around the different networks.
Not sure if the canal people do a temporary/visitor/short term licence that would allow you to move it off the canal system, then buy an EA river licence if you plan to stay on the Nene. (Cheaper than the Gold licence).

Looks like you can buy a one week visitor pass for 68 quid (not sure if they'll allow you to do it as you are already there ?!).

A Gold licence is 1578 for a 70 footer -

but a EA river licence is 1245, so a bit of a saving if you make it work.

If you are only going to keep it on EA waters buy that licence first, then buy the week visitor licence later.

- Obviously this only works if you can get it off the Grand Union within a week (if it takes a couple of days longer then you must have had a breakdown right ?)

Nice, half planned to try and make it.and catch up with friends further south, but 2h40 drive away and a 4month makes that far from a spur of the moment thing.
Glad to make Ellesmere Port at Easter and will make Action Bridge at the end of the year.
It was a good turn out with a lot of different boats to what were there in the past years. Definitely didn’t seem like we’d been away for a few years. Glad to make Ellesmere Port at Easter and will make Action Bridge at the end of the year.
Far too many drinks on Saturday night talking to people though!

Anyone been on the Ashby Canal? I live very close to it, but know very little about it. Keep meaning to explore it, but not yet had the time!
Yes; I did half of it from the Coventry canal about 10 years ago and then 'joined it up' more recently with a boat from Midland Mallard. Lovely canal, famous for having no locks, a couple of tunnels and the Bosworth battle museum is worth a visit. Recommended. The only negative was the Dog & Partridge in Dadlington, who basically ignored us, then the kitchen messed up the order twice. Patience exasperated we stumped back to the boat in foul mood and had Marmite sandwiches for supper.
