Apart from that I'd say British border security are delightful chaps, especially compared to the gruff and acerbic security you get in Australia or S.E. Asia.
The Dutch ones are always friendly too. I was particularly impressed the other week when the security chap asked the bloke in front of me "Nederlands? English?", the bloke replied "Espanol", the security chap started chatting away to him in Spanish biggrin

I'm flying Business to Dubai and back next week (and in January) and have picked a flight time that has an A380 rather than a 777 from Gatwick (come to think of it I think all flights now are A380 from Gatwick but there used to be a mixture)

Economy on an Emirates A380 is fine and I find the A380 an all-round better aircraft than a 777.
This - when booking they tell you the plane(s) you'll be travelling on, and you can pick the flight time that's covered by your preferred aircraft. It may also depend on the destination airport too - for example, Manila is a 777 only airport. Tokyo has A380s going into one, and 777 going into another.

Can't speak to economy (happily!) but I'd assume A380 would win there?
I do like the 380. I have only ever flown on it in economy (unhappily!) but it is better than usual for economy and very quiet.

Best economy I have been on was Air France 747 in the upper deck. I am not sure if they still have economy up there but I really enjoyed that.

My next flight is BA 747 next month from Miami to Heathrow. It has been many years since I was on BA and I have not heard good things lately. We shall see how it is.

Then the next week I have Frankfurt to JFK on a Lufthansa 747-8, my first time on one of those.

epends on the class you're flying in - A380 business is much better than the 777 (at least on the route I was on), first class is nicer in the 777 (fewer seats). Can't speak to economy (happily!) but I'd assume A380 would win there?
To be honest, I prefer Emirates First on the A380 by a country mile. Whilst the 777 only has 12 x F suits and the A380 has 16, the 777 lacks a bar and shower. Also, the loos at the front of F in the 777 are just regular sized plane heads, compared to the big bathroom suites on the A380.

On top of my usual long hauls, I’ve done 4 runs to Australia this year and, from DXB, always choose the A380 to SYD over the 777 to BNE. The ability to get up and walk about; have a bite to eat or few beers at the back bar and grab a shower an hour so before landing really makes a huge difference to me.

I’ve never noticed an appreciable difference in service between F in 777 v A380, despite there being a couple of extra suites.

Fair comment, and if I was off to Aus I’d doubtless pick the A380 too for the variety of places to spend time! smile

I found that first was full on my legs in the 380, vs. me and one other on the 777 which probably helped the service levels! biggrin

ETA: I’m sure there were only 8 seats in first, but I was quite drunk. biggrin

PH pedant mode: Emirates have 8 first suites on the 777 and 14 on the 380

I wouldn’t know which one was better unfortunately.

How often do you see drunken behaviour on planes? Must admit I've never seen it (only fly twice a year though)

I have not seen it very often. Last time I can remember was on an Etihad flight from Manchester to Singapore. There were a couple of guys in economy who I presumed by the fawning of the flight crew must have been usually in business or first, but on this flight were back in steerage. I was not sure what was going on, but these fellows seemed to be able to have access to limitless Champagne refills. Eventually, one of the them went to sleep it off but the other put on his headphones and ‘sang' loudly to a Rolling stones gig that was on the IFE.

Thankfully he was cut off after that, he was absolutely wasted.

I've been a quite a few Emirates flights in economy and have never found it a problem drinking my own weight in whatever you want.

I guess if you're not molesting the crew or pretending to be at a concert or simply being a tt you're OK.

Similarly I've been on a few Virgin Upper flights and the clubhouse prior to the flight are intent on throwing as much fizz or whatever you want down your throat before you board.

I've got 6 flights over the next 6 weeks all either business or Upper and I must admit I do try and make the most of them yes

Depends where you're flying. I rarely see it on short flights between major cities (I.E. London to Paris or Amsterdam) but when you're going to holiday destinations I see it regularly (I.E. to Phuket or Ibiza).

If you're taking the 6 am flight to Frankfurt, very unlikely however that midday or evening flight from Orlando is likely to have more than a few drunks on board.

I've seen some shocking acts of airborne drunkenness in my time (A hazard of flying out of Perth, Australia), the only one that has really annoyed me was when one of the spilled their drink on me.

Both Gatwick to Vegas flights I’ve done have been carnage. LVPD boarded one to remove some rowdy upper passengers and on the other a lad had to be lead back to his seat by the hand because he was so wasted he’d “got lost”.

My sister was cabin crew for BA for just over a year, she was sexually assaulted twice and physically assaulted once, all drunk people. The guy who launched a water bottle at her head was banned from BA but none of the three were dealt with by the police which is a poor show by BA. Behaviour like that needs to be dealt with with an iron fist and made an example of. It should be the case that if you touch a member of crew you will never be allowed to fly to, from or via the U.K. ever again.

This is completely opposite from my experience. I liked the emirates 777, and didn't rate the A380. The latter just seems to have been round the block a few times more and I didn't have as much space.

Business. I really thought the 777 was nicer. More legroom, newer, bigger and more up-to-date infotainment. Maybe I just had an "old" A380 and new 777.

Must have been newer than the one that I was on - mine had larger comfortably seats, but they didn’t turn into a fully flat bed. In contrast on the A380 I was in a window seat, and it really wasn’t too far off having a private suite (or first on something like BA) in terms of space, etc.

ETA: looked like this from what I recall. https://onemileatatime.com/emirates-777-business-c...

Thanks a lot. I will look for the Dreamliner every time now. It is by far the best plane for long distance, although I haven't been on an A380 yet.
