Hi everyone,
This is rather unlikely topic, but we have never talked about GenF problems.

My car has just turned 3yo and the I have observed the following:
- engine makes the car feel juttery when driving at low to mid speed when cold
- either the prop shaft or the diff makes a terrible whining noise (not at all times)
- after a longer while of driving I get a message on the dash that says somethingn along the lines of “side spotting system unavailable”. It basically deactivates the blind spot warning in the mirrors, but 10minutes later comes back on.

I will have all of the above looked at next service next month.

Has anyone else had any issues with their GenF?

Thanks
Bart

The second and third issues in your list sound familiar to me.

I used to get what I thought was 'diff moan' at very low speed on full lock normally when the car is warmed up. I'd notice it when I got home from work and park the car on the drive, which means slow first gear full lock manoeuvres to get the car aligned onto the drive from the road. To be honest, I thought the diff was a bit crappy anyway as it would often allow the inner rear wheel to spin up rather easily instead of locking the axles. I gave serious thought to swapping it out for a quaife variant, but I didn't do it as I suspected the "torque vectoring" feature of the Gen-F probably wouldn't play too nicely with a quaife and I couldn't find anyway to permanently turn this feature off.

As for the side blind system unavailable thing, this happened many times for a few different reasons. The first times I encountered this it turned out I had a lose/dirty connection between some modules located near the steering column. Pentagon in Burton on Trent eventually fixed this for me by simply unplugging, cleaning and reconnecting the modules. To be fair it wasn't just the side blind system not working, it was just about every other electrical system including the whole dash/HUD which would freeze/reset while driving the car.

Other times I've had this I didn't fully get to the bottom of it before selling the car, but I did notice that the issue seemed to be worse when the car was dirty and seemed to be less prevalent when the car was washed. Dead bugs/dirt/grime/road crap on the sensors perhaps?? I think some of the side sensors are buried under the panels. I don't know how weather proofed they are?

No denying, the car has not seen a wash for over a month, perhaps longer so the sensors going silly could be related.

As for the diff, mine is just whinning at speed, or at least that is when it is most audible (from 50mph to 77mph). I used to think that has always done that, but perhaps not...

I know of one (not mine) 2016 GTS that has had a diff replaced under warranty.

Yes, my maloo does that too. Warranty job for me.

Mine hasn't been cleaned this year I think so don't think it would be a dirt problem.

I have started to get the diff making funny noises at full lock, so might get it back to Bellingers to have a look at, but otherwise not had any problems with it, even with the upgrades it has had.

As with a lot of camaro zl1 diffs, there is a GM procedure to do if you get the whining diff, you need to change the oil a couple of times and you need to do it as per instructions, I will dig out what needs to be done.

I had my diff changed under warranty for another reason, and had not had any issues with whine with my new original diff that had covered about 12k miles the second new diff has been in the car for 15k miles with no issues of a whine either.

I will re post with what GM tells you to do

Get the side blind zone stuff checked if you can.

I never had any issues on any of my Commodores with false alerts or the system going offline.

The ultrasonic systems on the Astras on the otherhand get triggered by spray, dirty sensors, and certain sound frequencies (yes really).

Hi,
It seems that the side warning system is getting progressively worse. It now tends to switch off reverse sensors too which is not great.

As for the diff, I will have it looked at during next service.
