I swapped my V8 R8 for a V10 Plus recently, and it feels like I could do with a track day to properly get to know it.

Can anyone offer an opinion as to whether Croft will be good fun? I have family reasons for going out there, as opposed to another track, but would like to know if it’s worth it.

Good fun track, I consider it an easy track to learn, nothing major to catch you out (unless its changed since I last drove it 12 years ago)

Yeah - I've done Croft and it's a great circuit with only a couple of real heavy braking areas

Me and a couple mates are off there tomorrow for shakedown in his 205 we've just finished:

Very nice.

I suspect that not knowing the track, and not knowing the car that I’ll be getting shown the way round by cars like that.

Hope you enjoy it - it looks a good circuit on the TV. Bumpy in places, but in am sure you will take it easy at first in a car that valuable.

You will be surprised what overtakes you - top speed isn't a major factor, cornering ability is much more so. I have a friend who races a similar car to mine, but his fun road car has less than half the power of mine....but he is still just as quick in that as me around a twisty circuit, if not quicker.

Pay as much as you can for your track day - the cheaper ones, especially the "Try your car on track for £69.95", are definitely to be avoided. It doesn't matter how well you drive, it's the quality of the other drivers that can make the difference.
And watch your mirrors and listen to the briefing. The track day rules are there to benefit you.

Cracking day at Croft. 35'ish cars booked in so not that busy and plenty of free space on track.

The mi16 managed a good 30ish laps without any major issues:

My favourite car of the day was this thing absolutely nailing it:

Croft is great fun. Quite a technical circuit but should be open/fast enough to allow an R8 to stretch its legs a bit.

I've driven it in a variety of cars (2017 M3 last time out) and enjoyed each one.

The esses are great fun.

Like NickGRhodes it's ages since I've been. From what I remember it's a great circuit, especially in something like an R8. Good mix of technical and high speed corners, friendly management. Go for it!

Thanks all. I’ll hopefully be there next month.
