Not sure why my previous post never posted so take 2. Could anyone identify the make and model of this yacht.

Not reporting it’s position on Marine traffic

Currently anchored in Cala Llonga Ibiza (18/09/18 13:00z)

PH does seem to have some tired hamster issues today.

Are all boats/yachts required to do so, then?

Yep it does. I put it down to being on holiday and using a slightly slow connection.

Regards AIS pleasurecraft then no I don’t think they are required to report.

Certainly most commercial stuff I would expect to report under the colregs. AIS is basically like ACAS/TCAS aviation system for collision avoidance.

Most small yachts I have sailed on have an AIS receive only function though some have had transmit as well. This uses the yachts gps feed and the AIS position feed of nearby vessels to warn you. Of course if you only receive then nobody else will know your position.

I was hoping it would be transmitting it’s AIS data. I could then have used the MMSI to look up the ships make and model so I mentioned it’s not reporting AIS data so someone doesn’t waste there time trying to look it up.

Disagree - the cabin and bow are quite different.

Thanks for the pointer. Don’t think so. This must be 40ft ish. The ones in the link are 20m so what roughly 60ft. Far to big. It does look remarkably simple though. Italian flagged as well.

Also this has no portholes around the mast area on the side unlike the one in your link. Will do some more digging because it’s remarkably close so maybe a different model by the same designer/manufacturer.

If you have the name of the vessel you can look it up on the US Coast Guard website. In the States (where I currently reside) any vessel that is American Flagged that wishes to visit other countries is required to be registered with them.

My vessel is State registered (based on lake Michigan) - I still fly an American flag, but I am unable to leave American waters.

It’s too far out in the bay to read the name. The photo I posted was taken on an iPhone at 10x zoom. Here’s the image zoomed in further and screen shot. It looks like joy to me.

Looks a little like a Cal 2-46, ports are wrong though, working my way through the USCG registration site.... :-)

I am intrigued by this now, in mast furling would indicate something newer (or re-rigged) and it is a cutter.

Thanks Kilty2 I appreciate the effort. I took a water taxi from the bay to Ibiza marina yesterday and we motored right past it. Like an idiot I was too busy looking at a beautiful Lagoon Cat anchored right next to it.

Anyway I had a quick look but couldn’t see any manufactures name on it. Definitely sailing under an American flag and named Joy

Well after trawling the internet for a while I came up with this.

Nauticat 40
https://m.apolloduck.com/boat/nauticat-40/568389

I’m not 100% convinced but it seems very close. I realise it’s not cutter rigged but does have in mast furling.

Edited to add

It appears they could be spec as cutter rigged and a few are around.

I agree, close but...
Rubbing strake, bowsprit and transom are very different.
Maybe an earlier or later model?

Yeah the more I look the more I think it’s still not a Nauticat. Transom is clearly wrong. No bowsprit. Dam it.

Maybe it is an earlier/later model. It’s just so close in so many other ways. Arhhhh.
