wow

Why would you use a fan though? Surely driven wheels is more efficient?

Interesting that the American train looks like a classic piece of art deco desgn, whilst the British train looks like an ordinary train with a metal case on...!
That's actually what they both were!

I took these pics in Tokyo a few years ago. Returning to the UK and commuting on Southern from Surrey to London on the strike-riddled, stale-smelling, dull as ditchwater services took a bit of getting used to. Note the glove and cap wearing driver saluting from the green train.

Fascinated to read that the driving wheels of the locomotive in the OP were lit up - so "running lights" are not a more modern chavvy "thing" idea

Cool railroad (train!) photos? You can do worse than google the work of O Winston Link in 1950s USA. Setting the railroad within the country of the time - drive throughs, street railways etc. He used complex lighting rigs iirc, to get his unique style.

I don't know how to post pics, here is wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O._Winston_Link

Was on my way to get some Transit parts from a breakers a few months back, definitely wasn't expecting to see this parked up!
On it's way to the old Hornby hobbies warehouse in Margate which is now full of 1:1 scale trains smile

No doubt super-efficient etc, however I think those trains are very ugly.

Isn't the weird shape all to do with controlling the shock wave as they enter tunnels?

It’s to make them look more phallic

My favourite Japanese train is the one with round portholes for windows. Saw it at Osaka airport.

I've one of his books. Some iconic photos, that's for sure.

Well the entering tunnels idea still stands, nature always knows best.

Just do an image search on Google for O Winston Link. Some very impressive results.

As an aside, I watched a documentary a few years ago where he came out of retirement to do one last staged shot. At the end of it his flash array failed to go off... Ho hum... smile

I didn't see a stickied post for incredibly cool photos of trains.

This one is, I believe, from the 30's. I'm afraid I've forgotten the model of train but it, to me, is sublime.

Enjoy!

that's amazing !!! Thanks for posting - I never knew such a thing ever existed. Its a beauty !
