Wow that is a huge list and very incomplete as 3 stations that were closed within 2 miles of where I live are not listed, neither is one I know of elsewhere (Old Dalby).

I dream about the day the station near my house reopens (it never will) so that I can get the train to the local town, drink to my hearts content, then get the train back again.

I've seen this before, very interesting. There are a former lines near me and using Google Maps you can still see the routes they took.

Lots of pictures here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/31890193@N08/albums

My nearest closed station is not there either, mentioned in The Slow Train by the superbly posh and silly Flanders and Swann.

To be fair, they are adding new stations all the time, they are working on the Keswick to Penrith line atm.

A mate of mine lived in an old station, converted to a house. That and a lot of other old stations aren't listed.

I'd love that, a rural one.

It’s a decent record of closed stations / goods yard and as mentioned more information is added regularly.

I’m fortunate it covers the local Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) stations (the line has been converted to a bike / walking path) and interesting to see what the stations were like in their heyday as only one of the stations on the line has structure remaining today.

http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/w/west_derby/in...

Also covers a number of goods yards in the Liverpool area which the remnants of can still be seen from mapping / on the ground as the routing / curving of the lines is still evident in how buildings were built around the area e.g. unusual curving on perimeter walls / odd gaps between buildings.

Nice to see the history of railways being preserved as some of the stations closed in the 50’s so could easily be lost.

No sorry, I meant in a sense of sharing the photographs / information of the routes online.

There was some talk of recently of re-opening the line, but I doubt it’s a realistic option.

There is a preserved station on a different disused line on The Wirral - Hadlow Road. http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/h/hadlow_road/i...

The line itself is now a walking path / bridleway.

That’s fantastic smile Have cycled past there a few years back, very hilly!

Different part of the world, but stayed here 5 or 6 years ago albeit I don’t believe it’s an original station https://thesidingshotel.co.uk/

I wasn't meaning to be disparaging about the web site - it is great, a useful resource. My comment was really saying "wow huge number listed there... and there are a huge number not yet listed ... which means there were huge numbers closed, more than I had imagined"

I would like a platform for a patio though. With platform tickets smile

This is similar, Kent/Sussex border, https://www.railwaycarriageholiday.co.uk/the-carri... with the added advantage of being able to take the steam train to Bodiam, possibly to return by boat (tbc), or Tenterden.

Similar themed eatery nearby. https://www.railwaytavernrestaurant.com/Gallery

It's a work in progress, so no reason to expect it to be complete yet.

About ten years ago I was offered the chance to buy the station house at Lilbourne, the second station out of Rugby on the branch to Market Harborough, sadly I just couldn't quite afford it at the time and it needed a lot of work, including connection to the national grid! It belonged to one of our drivers, he inherited it after his Mum passed away, it was quite a wrench for him to sell it as he grew up there and his Dad was the signalman / porter. The platforms are still on the site today although they're no longer part of the property and are almost completely overgrown now, here's a photo of the very last train to call there in June '66, the station house is just visible beyond the platform...

Two other stations on the line are still intact and in use as private homes, Yelvertoft and Theddingworth, the latter still has its signalbox and level crossing gates too. Last year Dunchurch station on the Rugby to Leamington lane came up for sale, too pricey for me again sadly but it would make a great home for a PH'er with loads of parking space and a large outbuilding / garage / workshop where the old milk dock used to be.

I've recently started following Paul Whitewick on Twitter and YouTube, he's attempting to visit all of these disused stations in the country. Quite interesting I think

1/2 a mile from Sellafield. Not as rural as it looks.....
