It's that time of year again folks smile

What are your holiday plans with your preferred weapon of choice: camping, caravanning or camper van/motorhome?

Will have some camping sessions next year.
We bought a very expensive and vast tunnel air tent - kids loved the first two trips in it

We are off to Spain next week, for 2 months. biggrin

Plans for later in the year include Germany/Switzerland in May/June and Sicily in September/Oct. Interspersed with these big trips are lots of small ones in the UK. We visit Cardiff and Cheltenham to visit family and also want to try some more local sites near to where we live this year.

Just packing up to go skiing for a week, have another week at Easter that we'll see how conditions/weather is looking and then a week in Cornwall at the end of August. Plus some weekends here and there.

After our drive down to Romania and Bulgaria rough camping in 2019 we plan to do something similar in 2020, we're just not too sure where. We were hoping to take 5 weeks, the missus is a teacher so that's her summer hols, but we have a friend getting married midway through that which will make us either split it up into two separate trips or find somewhere secure along the route to dump the van for the weekend and fly back for the wedding.

Front runners are;

Norway/Sweden/Finland/Latvia with a visit into StPetersburg in Russia
Ukraine and Eastern Europe
Spain and Portugal

The biggest appeal of Spain, the missus parents have a flat there so we can park the van for a few days, there are some great off-road tracks through the pryenees as shown on the recent CVC trip. We can probably squeeze the trip into 3 weeks and then grab a fortnight in the Scottish highlands later in the year and save ourselves a flight back.

If we go back to Ukraine/Eastern Europe we would probably find a decent hotel to dump the van but it doesn't feel as safe.

The purchase of a dog may also lob a spanner in the works!

I'd love to do the Arctic circle/Scandi trip, we've talked about doing it via Scotland, the Orkneys and Iceland but realistically can't get away from work for that long. frown

What's the van btw, if you're thinking of tracks in the Pyrenees? Just thinking ahead for when the kids don't want to come with us and we can downsize...

Car 24 is much quieter in general than it used to be, although the French who've camped next to us for the last couple of years are the exception which proves the rule, bike GP isn't for a light sleeper wanting 8 hours kip though from what I've heard

No we know the drill. Did Mugello a few years ago (not camping) and saw the next morning carnage.

Luckily I can get away with taking 4 weeks off if I book it in advance and the other half is a teacher so gets 5 weeks in the summer, Iceland would be amazing. I had considered grabbing a ferry from the North East over to Norway but it turns out that route is no longer there so it's Euro Tunnel or Newcastle to Rotterdam. Probably a similar amount of time.

Van is a VW T5.1 4motion that we converted last year, lifted with AT tyres. If we end up heading to Spain I'll add some under body protection, extended breathers and a few other toys.

Just booked our main one up for summer. Going away half term for a week in Peaks or Lakes, May is a trip to the Brecons for 5 days with some off road motorbike action and then July it's 2 1/2 weeks on the continent. Going across from Hull to Zeebrugge, and then down into Black Forest. Doing a week there before a week in the Vosges and then heading up to near Trier for a few days to see some bits including Luxembourg. Should be fairly busy!

Well the caravan is entering it's third year with us and I've now got something with slightly better off road credentials to tow it so not so limited with site choice now.

I've only booked Easter so far, need to get the summer one booked as soon as.

So Easter one of my wife's relatives is getting married at the end of the school holidays in Dorchester so we're going to have the week leading up to that exploring part of the Jurassic coast.

For the Friday Mayday / VE day weekend we're meeting up with some of my relatives in Shropshire.

Whitsun half term I'll probably take the whole week off, not decided where to go for that one, maybe Peak District.

For our main summer break decided on Cornwall, going to head to the end, probably somewhere towards The Lizard. Going to take just over two weeks and plan to get the 'van to just one site then chill. Probably have an extra day or two either side to avoid the weekend M5 melee.

Might also go to a local-ish festival as we've never done one with the kids.

We did a fairly big trip last year around northern Spain which was fabulous.

This year we have some other commitments so not so many trips planned at present.

So far, Brighton, Shrewsbury, Bournemouh, Wales (Snowdonia) CarFest South, Cambridge.

Non Motorhome trips getting in the way are Nerja, Lindos (Rhodes) and Las Vegas.
